What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Technician position at Retina Vitreous Surgeons of CNY PC?
PART-TIME POSITION - 4 DAYS (4 HOURS) (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
Prepare patients for treatment and assist physicians in performance of patient exam in accordance with professional standards and medical group policies and procedures. Perform basic and routine vision screening and tests within prescribed protocol to assist physicians in collecting data and measurements to allow the correct diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and problems. Obtain/update patient medical history.
Ophthalmic technician may be required to travel to one of our satellite offices on as needed basis.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)
- Verifies patient by name and date of birth prior to rooming.
- Responsible for taking health history, documenting medications and diagnosis.
- Informs patients on what to expect after procedures in office and in the operating room and also educates patients when appropriate on diagnosis and signs and symptoms to be aware of. Maintains patient flow.
- Obtains chief VA complaint with proper documentation per protocol.
- Ability to check visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and PSFH documentation.
- Checks vision acuity and intraocular pressure and documents technician work-up in MDI or paper chart, pupillary check, and CVF.
- Consents patients for procedures in office and operating room.
- Identifies correct medication and correct eye for injections.
- Ability to check blood pressure on patients. Informs Clinical Lead when patients are not feeling well or elevated blood pressure or low blood sugar. Takes blood sugar accurately.
- Cleans speculums when needed per protocol.
- Monitors sharps containers and when full, bags and stores per procedure.
- Maintains patient safety.
- Keeps rooms neat, clean, and stocked.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 16 per week
