The SVP, Head of Business Development, USMM leads the team of senior Associates that drives RGA’s success in its flagship, domestic market developing strategy, tactical plans and customer service standards and ensuring their implementation. Develops relationships at the C suite level, negotiates treaties and business deals with client counterparts and managing RGA’s provision of service. Works hand-in-glove with the senior executives of US markets (Chief Actuary, Chief Underwriter, Head of Operations and Corporate functions).
Responsibilities
- You will be the voice of the client, a catalyst for sales excellence and work with your Business Developers / Key Account / Client Managers to understand, set, prioritize & execute an effective client strategy.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships up to the C-Suite with clients, partners, vendors and industry contacts.
- Develop and execute strategic business development plans to ensure production and operating income are aligned with corporate growth strategies and vision.
- Lead, manage and direct the activities of U.S. Mortality Markets Business Development
- Work closely with Global Accounts and Global Financial Solutions to drive a coordinated, consistent approach to the market to deliver a “one RGA” experience.
- Monitor, evaluate and influence ongoing business development efforts by all product lines operating in US markets
- Perform management duties such as hiring, training, evaluating, guiding and coaching direct reports.
- Forecast and budget for business development and measure performance against plans.
- Strong ability to engage clients on strategy and growth initiatives, risk and capital management strategies and targets
- Accumulate and analyze data relating to developments and changes in the reinsurance/insurance markets, competitor activity, industry trends, customer needs, etc
- Ensure that the team maximizes both growth and bottom line results and achieves quantitative and qualitative KPIs
- Demonstrating people and thought leadership both within USMM, GFS and across RGA
- Driving a performance culture, facilitating innovation and entrepreneurship within the team and across the RGA community. Inspiring and energizing your team.
- Represent RGA as a leader of the Company at industry meetings, seminars and conferences and exercise influence, with customers, competitors and other leaders.
- Participate as a subject matter expert, leader and team member in special projects, committees, meetings and client presentations.
- Ensuring compliance with all RGA guidelines, underwriting and pricing parameters, best practices as well as Code of Conduct
- Ensure that Companywide resources are accessed and seconded when needed to enhance opportunity.
Requirements
Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Business or related field or equivalent related work experience
- 15-20 years of reinsurance experience including 15 years of servicing and managing customers
- Strategic knowledge, experience and insights into the US life industry and respective markets
- A hunter approach to business development, that seeks to identify client needs to generate reinsurance opportunities.
- Excellent communicator ensuring collaboration and strong, trusting relationships with both colleagues and clients.
- Strong people leader who enjoys developing a team, enabling and empowering them to take decisions. Coach and support where need be, with an open mind to help associates achieve their full potential
Preferred:

State of Colorado: This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act. The pay range for this position in Colorado is $231,142 TO $344,905 per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA compensation includes an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and maintains a full range of competitive health and life insurance, retirement and other employee benefits.
