Incumbent assures that all medical and psychiatric operating procedures and regulations are followed. Serves two programs, the Crisis Residence and the Medical Mobile Crisis Unit. Significant aspects of the position include: assuring that consumers receive Nursing Assessments, that Physicians' Orders and Medication Observation Sheets are reviewed, and that the doctor is assisted in their psychiatric evaluation. Significant aspects of the Medical Mobile work include: responding to crises in the community where it is evident that medication may assist in resolving the crisis, administering medications, maintaining liaison duties with the on-call Psychiatrist, taking verbal orders and calling in prescriptions to the pharmacy, as well as documenting appropriately in the client chart and the New Perspectives database. The Nurse would be part of the Nursing Team, assisting in the reviewing of clinical standards, program policies and performance of all members of the team.
We are looking for a person with an interest in and understanding of individuals with serious mental challenges, as well as, experience with this population. Must have knowledge of current psychotropic medication, and be licensed to administer medications, as well as, complete medical and psychiatric assessments.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be LPN'S with an Associates Degree and 2 years experience in mental health nursing.
- Preferred qualification - Bachelors of Nursing degree from an accredited Nursing Program, have knowledge of the PA Mental Health Act, and have at least two years of nursing experience, of which six months has been psychiatric nursing experience, and be licensed as RN.
- Must have a valid Driver's License and reliable means of transportation.
Program Summary:
An eight-bed, short-term residential program for adults in Carbon, Monroe, and Pike counties. The program provides supervised mental health stabilization services as an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization for individuals who are in a psychiatric crisis, or who may need to be removed from a stressful environment while supports are identified to ensure stability. New Perspectives Telephone and Mobile Crisis Intervention Services provides assessment, crisis intervention counseling, crisis stabilization, referral and linkage with other services, and assessment of the need for emergency hospitalization at consumers’ homes or at other community locations.
