Position Summary
As a member of the Enterprise Data and Business Intelligence (EDBI) group, the Data Architect independently designs and maintains the enterprise data warehouse and data lake architecture to support analytics and informational insights across the University. This position evaluates and advises on all data management functions across various data domains to support analytics and insights use cases. Remote work is available.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted
- 8 years of related experience in data architecture, data modeling, and design

- Skills required
- Expert knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of database systems
- Expert knowledge of systems platforms, database security protocols, and modeling techniques
- Stays current on current technology trends
- Ability to collaborate with vendors and system service providers, provide administration for system solutions, and act as a liaison
- Expert relational database skills including expertise and knowledge of SQL and PL / SQL
- Expert with relational databases, semi and unstructured data, JSON, and ReST APIs
- Mastery of business intelligence and data warehouse/data lakes concepts and methodologies
- High proficiency in designing physical, relational, logical, and reporting data models
- Expert level in designing complex data pipelines
- Expert level in databases, data acquisition, ETL strategies, tools and technologies
- Ability to develop a vision for future computing needs and develop the appropriate plans to meet these needs
- High proficiency to analyze and solve problems of complex scope independently
- Excellent leadership, presentation, analytical, innovative, verbal, and written communication skills
- Proven critical thinking and problem-solving ability
Essential Functions
- Designs and deploys highly complex architectures for data solutions, warehouses, lakes, and other data structures
- Conducts research and makes recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
- Applies third-party upgrades to existing databases
- Coordinates and works with other technical staff to develop a data warehouse, data marts, curated data sets, and relational databases
- Identifies inefficiencies in current databases and investigates solutions
- Diagnoses and resolves database access and performance issues
- Plans and coordinates data migrations between systems
- Develops, implements, and maintains change control and testing processes for modifications to databases
- Manages end-to-end data architecture and designing the technical architecture
- Ensures all database systems meet business and performance requirements
- Produces ad-hoc queries and develops reports to support business needs
- Creates and maintains technical documentation
- Develops and maintains Data Warehouse
- Implements data dashboards to display data in differing formats
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Preferences
- Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Management or a related discipline
- Knowledge of multiple existing and next-generation data engineering and pipeline tools
- Develops standards, definitions, and codes conforming to global and reusable objects for complex database designs
- Familiarity with master data management
- Identifies data sources and designs a data management strategy that is aligned with data governance policies and organizational strategy
- Programming skills such as Python, R
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake
- Knowledge of Tableau or comparable analytics tools
- Proficient in data mining, visualization, and machine learning skills
- Understanding of predictive modeling, NLP, and machine learning
- Knowledge of data fabric concepts
