Position Description: Youth & Children Ministries Director

Description: The Youth & Children Ministries Director (Director) plays a major role in the faith development of all ages within the church, both as a leader and as a role model. RUMC seeks a person who has a solid understanding of the foundations of Christian faith and strong desire to nurture youth and children in the Christian faith. Reporting: The Youth & Children Ministries Director reports directly to the Pastor for daily operations, and Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC, liaison assigned) for fulfilling responsibilities defined in the job description, defining goals, and evaluation and communication of concerns related to the performance of the position. with indirect reporting to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead teacher for Sunday School (Sunday hours 9 to noon)
  • Oversee Teaching and Nursery Positions, including signing off on monthly hours
  • Oversee and implement curriculum for Children’s and Youth Ministries
  • Motivate and nurture youth and children in their Christian spiritual and social development and help them to understand and apply the Bible to their lives.
  • Develop positive and cooperative relationships with parents so that they develop a feeling of significant contribution and ownership of their children’s religious education
  • Actively recruit children, youth and young families through church supported activities and programs in the community each Sunday am.
  • Coordinate with Office Manager
  • To order necessary curriculum
  • To keep background checks up to date
  • To share calendar for advertisement with larger church
  • Participate in a Monthly/ Sunday noon Staff Meeting - with Pastor and others working with children/ families-
  • Develop and oversee check-in and check-out system to ensure children’s safety
  • Assist with Vacation Bible School and Christmas Pageant
  • Support pastor and parents if there is a confirmation program
  • Liaison to Camp Ministries (oversee scholarship account and distribution, encourage children to attend summer camps)
  • Connect with Administrative Council on a quarterly basis
  • Attend Tuesday evening meeting to share progress with Children/Youth Ministries
  • Help to set and monitor the annual budget

Requirements

  • Background Checks will be administered
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Must be 25 years or older.
  • Theologically aligned with RUMC Teachings
  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience working with children and helping to create an environment where they feel welcome, wanted and safe.
  • A sense of call and a passion for working with youth and children with the ability to build nurturing relationships with them and their families
  • Work as a team with Children & Youth Ministries volunteers and church staff
  • Good organizational, teaching, administration and technology skills, including online platforms
  • An understanding of child and adolescent development and skill level
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to recruit, train, organize and motivate volunteers for youth and children’s ministries
  • Ability to encourage multi-generational fellowship and connection
  • Willing to participate with other Christian ministry professionals in the community as opportunities arise that fit within the church’s purpose and ministry vision

Location: On-site position on Sunday mornings 9:00am - 12:00pm, monthly meetings, and prep work that can be done at home.

Salary position, approximately 30 hours/month $20/hr

Office hours: Monday - Thursday 9:00am to 2:00pm.
