What are the responsibilities and job description for the Polysomnographic (Sleep Study) Technician position at RieLes Group?
RieLes Group, LLC is seeking two Polysomnographic (Sleep Study) Technicians to join our team. We are hiring for one full time position and one PRN position. The positions are located at Fort Eustis, VA and gives the person(s) in this position an opportunity to provide services for our military personnel and their families. Position Description
The Sleep Study Technician will work under the direct supervision of the Pulmonary Provider. The employee shall perform services in accordance with the standards of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the professional standards of McDonald Army Health Center. The employee shall have the following knowledge and abilities, but may not necessarily be limited to:
- Sleep study technician must be able to recognize abnormally functioning equipment and render initial repairs
- Must take steps to discontinue study when repairs cannot be made
- Must have practical knowledge of a wide range of technical methods, principles, and practices applicable to polysomnography
- Sleep study technician must-have skill to independently plan difficult assignments
- Sleep study technician must have an advanced understanding of sleep disorders and skill to independently perform procedures involving very fine distinctions and fine-tune complex computerized precision instruments
- Must have an advanced understanding of physiology, especially in relation to cardiopulmonary function
- Must have an advanced understanding of electromyography (EMG) and its application to polysomnography
- Must be able to provide a variety of detailed diagnostic tests monitoring of patients
- Must use tact in establishing and maintaining communication and have no objection or difficulty in viewing partially or fully disrobed patients
- Sleep study technician must be able to communicate effectively when explaining to family the testing and monitoring procedures to be performed. This is necessary to provide reassurance when patients and family are apprehensive about their surroundings in the sleep study lab
Quality Improvement shall include the following responsibilities:
- Participate in multidisciplinary functional groups and process action teams as needed
- Uphold established patient care and practice standards
- Review and submit reports as required
- May be assigned to other clinics temporarily or as needed or for additional on the job training
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a registered Sleep Study Technician
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified by the American Heart Association and demonstrate the ability to initiate CPR in the event of respiratory or cardiopulmonary arrest
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and healthcare providers
- Continuously employed in the practice of Sleep Study Technician or training for two years prior.
- Knowledgeable of a body of standardized patient care and skill sufficient to perform procedures (i.e., applying/removing casts, splints, and skeletal traction and assisting in the treatment of other minor orthopedic conditions and major surgical orthopedic conditions)
- Knowledgeable of equipment and supply terminology and skilled sufficient to identify and use necessary equipment and supplies properly and to communicate proper use with nurses, medical staff, patients, and family members
- Skilled to teach patients proper self-care and to motivate patients and family members to continue the procedures for promoting rapid healing
- Shall use initiative in carrying out recurring tasks independently without specific instructions but refers to problems or unusual situations not covered by instructions to the supervisor for help
- Knowledgeable and possess skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients
