Job Overview

The Instructional Designer is part of the Rootworks Education Services team. This role is primarily responsible for collaborating with subject experts to design and support the development of engaging, innovative, relevant and impactful adult e-learning programs and initiatives and helping to manage the Rootworks’ web-based LMS system. The Instructional Designer is empowered to utilize their knowledge of adult learning principles to assist in creating and delivering appropriate web-based learning resources and in-person experiences for external members. The Instructional Designer will report to the Manager of Instruction. This is a remote work position.

  • Applies knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, and business development to create inspiring, user-friendly, inclusive, and impactful learning experiences for external members.
  • Translates complex processes and strategies into structured learning assets for business owners and their staff.

  • Exhibits a high-level of problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of LMS systems and their capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to write, design, develop, deliver, and manage effective member-facing learning content using instructional design techniques in conjunction with adult learning theories on the following Rootworks principles:
    • Firm management, including project management, billing, and financial metrics.
    • Tax, Bookkeeping, and Payroll services.
    • Culture and staff management for small-medium businesses.
  • Design learning assessments and surveys to evaluate course effectiveness, learner application, and ROI.
  • Manage individual project plans to meet instructional design deadlines as well as project team deadlines for courses, curriculum and other L&D efforts.
  • Create and maintain virtual and e-Learning course templates to be used by the Education Services, Marketing Solutions and other applicable teams.
  • Support the Education Services Managers, Coaches and Trainers by preparing for and executing webinars and on-premise Rootworks events.
  • Help maintain and ensure consistency and quality in training content and tools within the Rootworks Learning Management System.
  • Ensure all educational materials, presentations, and published resources adhere to design standards.
  • Respond to support questions as they relate to resources that make up Rootworks educational offerings.
  • Assist with managing continuing education (CPE) data and maintaining compliance with NASBA standards.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or Learning & Development Instructional Design related business experience required. 2 years of Instructional Design experience required.
  • Absent a bachelor’s degree, a candidate for the position will have an associates degree plus 4 years of Instructional Design experience, creating and delivering online training, and have experience creating educational materials.
  • Experience with content creation and management of adult-learning materials in an LMS system.
  • Experience applying the ADDIE model to create participant-centered learning.
  • Experience using one or more Learning Management Systems. Implementation of an LMS system is a plus.
  • Success in this role will require a self-starter attitude with the ability to work without constant supervision, open-mindedness and willingness to ask questions, the desire to help our customers to the best of our abilities, and a team-player mentality.
  • Quarterly travel.
