Job Title: Network Engineer L3’
Location- Lewiston, ME
Work mode: Contract to Hire
The Network Engineer III is responsible for the installation, support, and maintenance of all network communications, including but not limited to LAN/WAN, wireless, telecommunications, and unified communications systems at a high level. They evaluate current systems and work on complex problems where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. The Engineer III completes assigned tasks of routine to significant complexity related to projects and technical requests, and provides Tier 1 and Tier 2 support in all areas of the departmental service portfolio. The Network Engineer III is expected to function with a very high degree of autonomy and self-direction once assigned work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Participates and engages and occasionally leads in team meetings, team building activities, and other opportunities to strengthen the department.
- Executes project-related tasks.
- Actively maintains education and cross-training on all departmental areas of expertise. Prepares, leads and attends training when available and appropriate.
- Leads the effort in role-based user provisioning activities, processes and standards for system-wide applications.
- Participates and occasionally leads in inter and intra-departmental committees and groups.
- Participates in the evaluation and estimation of routine work requests, ITS initiatives or minor projects. Maintains detailed and accurate records in workload management, asset management and administrative applications. Creates, follows and maintains documentation and checklists to ensure efficiency and consistency.
- Acts as backup for certain departmental leadership functions.
- Assists customers with understanding total cost of ownership issues related to hardware and software.
- Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health and the Catholic Health Ministry.
Job knowledge and skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a professional business manner and ability to interact with people of differing professional levels.
- Proficient in design, setup and configuration of network router/switch and converged voice technologies from an engineering perspective. LAN protocols to include VLAN, STP, VPC, QoS etc. Experience with IP addressing (IPv4 subnets and supernets)
- Proficient in design, setup and configuration of wireless networking using controller based Cisco devices that supports open or secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications.
- Proficient in the setup and support of VoIP phone systems.
- Proficient in configuration and setup of multi-vendor Firewalls and Security appliances for access to vital business applications, hardware and software VPNs.
- Proficient using network performance tools for monitoring performance and troubleshooting network problems and outages
- Communicates in a professional, positive and timely manner in person, on the phone, and via electronic means.
- Represents the department and company in a positive and professional manner.
- Participates in the evaluation and estimation of complex work requests and projects.
- Creates, follows, maintains and updates as necessary documentation and checklists to ensure efficiency and consistency.
- Uses advanced troubleshooting methodologies that provide efficient, effective resolution and minimize impact to the customer.
- Actively maintains education and cross-training on all departmental areas of expertise.
- Leads complex inter-and intra-departmental committees and groups.
- Represents the team on complex projects.
- Works conscientiously to minimize cost and time requirements in all areas of departmental responsibility.
- Assists management in identifying significant opportunities for process improvement within and without the department.
- Assists customers with understanding total cost of ownership issues related to hardware and software.
- Acts as liaison for affiliates and external organizations with which we maintain a relationship.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor Degree preferred, 8 years relevant experience.
- Ability to obtain CCNA (Routing and Switching) certification within 6 months.
- Ability to obtain CCNP and CCDA within 2 years.
