What does a Director, IoT and Embedded Controls do at Rinnai?

Are you a strategic leader focused on creating an IoT and Embedded Controls Strategy for today and the future? If yes– read on. Within Rinnai you will have the opportunity to build and provide leadership to a growing IoT and Embedded controls team. This will include setting the strategic product development direction for Rinnai’s Connected Products including technology evaluation and incorporation as applicable.

  • This position has a hybrid schedule: must be willing to report into office based on required schedule at 103 International Dr, Peachtree City, GA.


What you will do:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

IoT and Embedded Controls Solutions

• Lead the development of the Rinnai Connected Solutions Architecture.

• Partnered with Rinnai’s Product Management leaders develop and implement a strategy that ensures our customers’ expectations are met or exceeded.

• The recognized IoT and Embedded Controls technical expert. Identify and apply best practice engineering designs, tools and methods for engineering initiatives.

• Lead gathering Voice-of-Customers (VOC) and user needs. Use the data gathered to identify potential product improvements.

• Lead control system design, engineering analysis, Regulatory and Product Performance teams focused on optimizing Rinnai products for quality, safety, performance, and reliability.

• Lead the development of embedded and connected solutions for Rinnai products.

• Lead the identification of controls solutions that interface with back-office solutions, existing and future smart home infrastructures, sensors, power supplies, and electromechanical components.

• Work with Regulatory teams and agencies to identify IoT and Embedded Controls certifications. Drive standards development and identify required product testing changes with new standards releases.

• Ensure that projects and initiatives are delivered on time and in conformity with Rinnai’s

policies and objectives.

• Keep current on new technology development and deployment, engineering best

practices, regulatory codes and standards for product safety and performance.

• Create an engineering change notice strategy – identify opportunities to consolidate changes and drive customer satisfaction.

• Lead the build out of a customer focused product maintenance strategy including – identifying the data required for the strategy and the development of quality control processes, quality reports to drive continuous improvement of Rinnai products.

• Talent Development – Responsible for building a team focused on executing key customer deliverables. Including – building the skills of the group through formal training, targeted on the job activities, expectation setting and embrace corporate Top Talent initiatives.

• Support a collaborative environment and drive knowledge sharing.

• Embrace and support growing business demands in a changing environment.

• Awareness and compliance of Company Policies and Procedures.

• Other duties and responsibilities as required.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Masters preferred.

• Minimum 15 years of progressive engineering and product development expertise related to controls hardware and software.

• Extensive knowledge of IoT and Embedded Controls methods, a recognized expert.

• Advanced proficiency in controls systems and applications.

• Experience in digital and analog control system design, and circuit modeling tools.

• Experience in printed circuit board (PCB) design and layout tools.

• Experience in microcontroller system hardware/software development.

• Successful product development from concept to production, including regulatory testing, debug, and validation for small and large volume products.

• Proven results using model-based design.

• Deep understanding of product design and engineering fundamentals in controls.

• Deep understanding of certification process and standards such as UL, FCC, CE, CEC, ROHS.

• A recognized leader in Agile development.

SKILLS

• Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

• Technical proficiency in IoT and Embedded Controls.

• Effective planning, prioritization, and organizational skills.

• Executive Level, customer, and general communication skills.

• Excellent computer literacy to include but not limited to MS Office products.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Understanding of regulatory and safety codes as they apply to heating and gas fired products is a plus.
