We are looking for aProcess Engineerto join the Rio Tinto Kennecott Metals Technical Team to support the Metals Group day-to-day process control, process improvements, risk mitigation, safety improvements, and technologically innovative solutions.
This role is a great opportunity to apply and develop your process engineering skills. This role reports to the Principal Advisor (Hot Metals). Responsibilities include:
- Providing process support including monitoring, trouble shooting, and optimization, providing technical support for the 24/7 operation, on an as needed basis.
- Identifying gaps between past performance and production plans and implementing solutions to close those gaps.
- Implement Process Safety Management practices in Metals Group
- Reporting of data for process control, production planning, and process optimization
- Initiates, develops and implements projects to improve process efficiency, capacity and control.
- Be a Safety Leader by identifying and implementing safety improvements and risk mitigation
- Work in cross functional Teams to provide best possible solutions to Plant issues.
- Provide training and guidance to team members (Operations, Asset Management, etc.) to accomplish production goals
- Capital projects, initiation, execution and support.
What you will bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.Other engineering disciplines with applicable processing experience may also be considered.
- Must have experience working in metallurgical processing and smelting. Position commensurate with level of experience.
- Experience in process control logic and distributed control systems
- Skills in statistical and data analysis.
- Experience working in technical teams and leading projects.
- Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in MS Office and spreadsheet application
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Knowledge of copper processing principles
- Knowledge of high temperature processes
- Knowledge of electrochemical processes
- Knowledge of processing equipment
- Knowledge of project management and execution
- Team working skills

Where you'll be working
Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903, and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
