As a Senior Advisor, CSP (Communities and Social Performance), you will develop and support the delivery of a plan of work to contribute to Rio Tinto Kennecott's CSP strategy and objectives. This role will specifically support the land team in community relations, communications, and government relations needs.
Your role will work across value stream managing multi-disciplinary, complicated challenges that require a mix of CSP technical skills and entrepreneurial, commercial thinking. You will work across a number of CSP disciplines including stakeholder engagement, NGO relationships, partnership identification and management, regional development, closure, cultural heritage, community relations, land development, government relationships, and communication needs.
This exciting role will see you developing and maintaining close relationships and engagement with operational leaders, Corporate Relations team, Land and Water Commercial team, RT America's, HR and Recruiting teams, and the Closure team.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge base including an intimate understanding of the business' social and economic impact on local communities from:
- Operations
- Regional Planning
- Land Development
- Water Development
- Closure and post mining activities
- Keep track of emerging local, regional, national, and global CSP issues and opportunities
- Plan, Implement and report on activities to ensure the strategy and objectives are met
- Partner with Corporate Relations and Government Affairs to develop a comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan to support business objectives
- Identify, negotiate, implement, and maintain agreements, commitments, and/or multi-stakeholder partnerships to reduce risk and strengthen the communities we impact
- Representation on study teams for life extension efforts, smelting and refining options, land and water development, and closure activities
- Support the resolution of complex situations and challenges while ensuring alignment to maintaining compliance with legal and other commitments, company policies and standards
- Lead community conversations and engagement on land strategy and objectives
- Integrate with land, communications, and government relations teams
- Liaison with government leaders on land development projects
What you will bring

- University degree(s) in Social Science or related field of study
- 5 plus years of experience in Stakeholder Relations, Community Relations, Community Development, Public Involvement, Social Investment or closely related field with solid tenure managing issues on the ground.
- Knowledge of local/regional context and stakeholders
- Strong interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence and cultural awareness
- Previous experience in the extractive and or natural resource industry
- Communication skills and background
- Knowledge of land development
- Government Relations

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903, and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
