About Our Program
The Individualized Residential Alternative (IRA) Program operates 12 residential homes that caters to adults who are diagnosed with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. The hallmark of the IRA program is our People-Centered Approach, where the individual is the primary decision maker regarding their life and treatment. Our residents go on outings, play sports, conduct household chores, work and have fun!

Position Summary & Responsibilities
The role of the Direct Support Professional is to create home-like setting that is caring, enabling, empowering, supportive and which leads to independence by acting as teachers, role models, and supporter to our residents.
- Assist, support, supervise and instruct individuals in every aspect of daily living skills in order to promote independence, and to be viable, integrated, and productive individuals of their community;
- Implement lifestyle programming and teach skills to achieve a sense of accomplishment and self-worth in the areas of behavior management, life safety training, health/socializing/sexuality training, communication skills, recreation and leisure skills, home care/eating/cooking skills, independent community living skills, cognitive skills, vocational/prevocational training, and problem solving skills;
- Documents all individual’s programs during the shift. This includes daily checklists, MAR, communication goals, recreations, bowel movement chart, body checks, etc.
- Documents all behavioral programs including behavior data tracking and ABC sheets if a behavior occurs. Informs management of any new behaviors observed;
- Upon arriving on shift, reads and initials the Residence Log and Staff Log and counts the Resident Accessible Funds with exiting staff and incoming staff before departure of shift to ensure accuracy;
- Maintains the residence in a neat, clean, sanitary, safe and orderly fashion;
- Completes designated responsibilities for the shift and documents any responsibilities not fulfilled in the staff log as well as notifying management;
- Supervises the individuals at all times to ensure their safety; provided necessary gradient of supervision as per individual’s needs;
- Ensures individuals are appropriately dressed for the weather;
- Will become AMAP certified and complete all required trainings within three months of hire. When designated as the AMAP staff on shift, will be responsible for counting the medications in the medical cabinet and reviewing the MAR sheets. Will inform management and the nurse if there are any errors observed;
- Provide safe transportation at all times;
- Works as a team player with supervisors and co-workers;
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the management team;
These are mainly Part-Time positions. Servicing the Eastern Long Island area, we have sites in the following locations:
- Riverhead
- Cutchogue
- Flanders
- Wading River
- Greenport
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid NYS Driver’s License
- Customer Service Experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of experience in a care facility or home
- Excellent Communication and Computer Skills
