Systems Engineers, are you looking for something new, a position where you can apply your technical skills outside of daily systems support? If so, we have an immediate contract to hire position for you! You will serve as a Lead for outsourced support of all internal IT tools for our customer.
This role is responsible for supporting our client's IT organization’s operational management toolset. In essence, supporting the tools that support IT. This is a critical role for our client. You will be responsible for several tools, such as their ITSM tool, Cherwell, their monitoring tool, SolarWinds, Big Fix patching updates, and others. Keeping these tools updated and troubleshooting any issues will keep IT up, allowing the entire operation to run efficiently.
As the lead of this group, you will be responsible for providing technical management and leadership to the outsourced team and informing management of any issues affecting current Enterprise Tools.
You will need to have senior-level knowledge of how these tools work and how to troubleshoot issues. You do not have to know all of them but a high level of knowledge of some of them is required.
Duties will include:
- Analysis of the current tools in use, provisioning or configuring tools, reporting data generated (system performance, resource utilization data, etc.), and projecting needs for future expansion. This will include all Enterprise Technology tools that are required for Infrastructure and Operations to manage all environments.
- Consults and provides guidance and options for the use of related technologies as required.
- Provide feedback and ensure day-to-day environment alignment to infrastructure standards.
- Working knowledge of Scripting such as Linux Shell Scripts and PowerShell.
- Ensures consistent monitoring and processing for the following processes: Change, Release, Incident, Problem, Security, and Configuration Management processes, policies, operating plans, and mandates.
- Working knowledge of Virtual System technology such as VMWare.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and experience
- Establishes effective working relationships and communication with internal teams on the protection of data and systems.
- Works with vendors to resolve issues as required.
- Completes tasks assigned and project work within scope, priority, timelines, and budget.
- Can document effective processes for maintaining and monitoring systems as well as the Integration required across platforms and teams.
- Must be able to document business continuity solutions that are integrated and fit within the high availability and recovery goals of the department.
- Ensure that system security is maintained at all times through network log management, firewall configuration, and maintaining OS/application level patching/configuration.
- Ability to automate system administration tasks through scripting or some related technology.
- Work within the parameters of the change management and configuration management paradigms.
Experience required for this position includes
- 5-7 year’s recent experience supporting enterprise-grade applications
- Application & infrastructure deployment Automation & Orchestration experience
- Multiple OS environments (*nix and Windows)
- Source Control experience, preferably using GIT
- Experience with SolarWinds, CA Wily/UIM/Spectrum/ASM, CA Workload Automation, IBM BigFix, Atlassian Tools, Microsoft MOM/Systems Management, and other similar Enterprise Applications
- Programming/Scripting experience using PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ruby, or other functional languages
- A former capacity that included enterprise analysis of computer, network, and application metrics
- Understanding of load balancing and technology
- Middleware experience (i.e. Tomcat, JBoss, IIS, or other similar enterprise technologies) is a plus. We are unable to accept 3rd party candidates, or transfer a visa or provide sponsorship, at this time.
