Ritter Greenhouse is a large wholesale ornamental and vegetable greenhouse operation. We are seeking an individual that is passionate about their work, has a willingness to learn, and can adapt to an often changing environment. You will learn many facets of the greenhouses and will work directly with the growing team to produce quality plants. In addition to the basic grower duties, you will be in a team leader role responsible for overseeing a section of the operating greenhouses and reporting to the Assistant Head Grower. Section Growers are responsible for plant products in their greenhouse section. Answering questions, watering, monitoring performance, and assisting in the resolution of problems are a few of the responsibilities this position holds. Working closely with the Head Grower and maintaining the assigned greenhouses is essential to our success throughout the growing season. This is a full-time position. Basic knowledge of horticultural practices and techniques is required. At Ritter Greenhouse we take pride in training for success and introducing our methods to those with great character. Job Summary: The section grower is responsible for overseeing the care and qualuity of crops within their section. They will perform operational and supervisory functions in addition to correctly and efficiently meeting crop requirements to consistently produce quality plants with minimal losses. This includes watering, fertilizing, weeding, light maintenance, and any other job-related task asked by a supervisor.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Continuously displays leadership qualities and holds excellent standards to set example for team
  • Insures plant health and quality work performance of growers through supervising
  • Recognizes training opportunities and takes action to help correct performance issues
  • Accurately judges watering and cultural needs of specific crops with consistent performance after training period
  • Monitors fertilizer usage and mixes new when necessary
  • Constantly scouts for pests, diseases, and fungus that can lead to crop loss
  • Documents daily plant care on greenhouse calendars
  • Maintains work area and keeps standards for the growing team
  • Promotes team morale and presents a positive attitude with all employees
  • Communicates well and demonstrates observational skills with the ability to report to supervisors any plant-related challenges without delay
  • Anticipates potential problems to avoid crop loss and reports to Assistant Head Grower
  • Upholds a consistent level of professionalism through employee and client interaction, work attire, and attitude
  • Ability to adjust work schedule with the season- weekends and holidays when necessary. (More information given upon interview)
  • Has a desire to learn and self-educate throughout employment
  • Actively contributes to the continued success of the company and success as an individual through steady performance of responsibilities and personal goals
  • Skills & Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required)
  • Horticulture student/degree (preferred)
  • Missouri Highway State Patrol criminal background-check upon employment (required)
  • Must have knowledge of basic horticultural practices
  • High observation and detail-orientation
  • Light maintenance through trouble-shooting
  • Demonstrates effective communication and cooperation
  • Capacity to help solve plant related problems after training
  • Performs and exceeds expectations and duties with minimal supervision

Physical Aspects:

  • Ability to lift 50lbs above waist level
  • Can work in all weather conditions regardless of heat, rain, or snow
  • Will be exposed to and working in a wet environment that will potentially saturate clothes and footwear
  • May be in conditions where houses can be 10-20 degrees above outside temperature

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
