Community Outreach & Utilization Liaison

At River Edge in the Developmental Disabilities program, our caring, well trained staff partner with individuals, families, loved ones and other providers to offer individualized choices, options, opportunities and supports that promote each individual's valued social roles, pursuing expanded hopes and dreams, learning new skills, and living the most independent, meaningful life possible. Though people say "developmental disabilities," we see "different abilities." Staff teach, reinforce and support daily nutrition, hygiene, medication and social skills. Staff provide behavior supports and foster opportunities and options for community integration and belonging.


We are looking for a Community Outreach and Utilization Liaison. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a social service related field. They will be able to advocate for children and families in need of mental health and substance abuse services by attending community meetings within different counties served by River Edge. In addition, this position is responsible for monitoring and assisting with utilization management for the child and adolescent program.

Location/Schedule: 175 Emery Hwy; Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m to 5:00 p.m

Job responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly meetings and act as a representative of River Edge (i.e. LIPT, Truancy Panels, Back to School events, health fairs, CHINS, court activities, etc.)
  • Refers client or family to community resources to assist in recovery from mental health, substance abuse, or other disorders and resources to provide access to services such as financial assistance, legal aid, housing, job placement/education, etc.
  • Ensures proper documentation is completed and that all services are authorized for staff in child and adolescent services
  • Submits requests for services into the GAMMIS portal for outpatient services for individuals with CMOs
  • Reviewing failed claims and other weekly reports to ensure reimbursement for services provided
  • Completes documentation in electronic medical record as appropriate
  • Coordinating with PCP provider for clients enrolled in services
  • Monitor when individuals are due back for appointments and assist in contacting clients who have not followed up
  • Support clerical staff as needed
  • Update C&A Resource Guide as appropriate and communicate any changes in resources to child and adolescent staff
  • Complete programmatic reporting on a monthly basis
  • Utilizes personal vehicle to travel from River Edge sites to local meetings and networking opportunities as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field (social service related field preferred)
  • Experience working with or advocating for children and families or individuals with mental health or substance abuse disorders preferred
