What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wine and Beverage Manager position at River Oaks Country Club?
Reporting to the Director of Wine & Beverage, the Wine & Beverage Manager oversees the beverage operation, including personnel, beverage service, inventories, and product controls. This position will have frequent and direct interaction with Members and their guests as well as act as a working sommelier in Club dining rooms and, where necessary, for banquets and private events.
This is a full-time, exempt position. Hours of Club operations are typically from Tuesday – Sunday. The ability to work weekends, holidays and AM or PM shifts as required is paramount.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide beverage pairings and the have the ability to understand guest preferences
- Ensure proper service techniques including glassware, pour levels and storage
- Maintains inventory of all wine and beverage products and glassware Club-wide
- Assists in collecting data and preparing financial reports for Wine Committee and House Committee meetings
- Assists Director in developing creative wine and beverage events and programs for Members
- Plans and executes wine education events for Members
- Selects and prices wines for monthly Special Inventory Pricing (SIP) program
- Assists the Director in wine selection and suggestions for private events and banquets
- Monitors staff performance in all phases of service and job functions, ensuring that all procedures are carried out to Club standards
- Manages weekly work schedules in accordance labor forecasts
- Frequently meets with vendors, suppliers, and distributors to evaluate products for inclusion to the program
- Represents Club and Wine Committee in wine and spirits related events on and off-premises
- Seeks further wine and spirits related professional certifications
- Builds strong relationships with Club members, co-workers, vendors, and guests
- Responsible for oversight of all bar areas to keep sanitation standards at the highest standard
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of all liquor brands, beers and non-alcoholic selections available in outlets, designated glassware and garnishes for drinks, all bar menu items, preparation method/time, ingredients, garnishes, presentation and prices
- Assists with establishing par levels for supplies, liquor, beer, wine and equipment
- Understands and complies with:
- All departmental policies, procedures, and standards
- Correct maintenance and use of beverage-related equipment
- State liquor regulations (TABC)

Qualifications
- 3-5 years of related experience in a high-end hospitality establishment
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A college degree preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft applications
- Point of Sale knowledge preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Current TABC and Texas Food Handler Certifications
