What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Laborer position at Riverbend Nursery?
JOB PURPOSE / SUMMARY:
- Nursery Laborers are responsible for assisting potting, propagating, shipping, and maintaining the plants in the greenhouses and outside by planting, weeding, trimming, cutting, raking, moving, shipping, and watering in a safe and efficient manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow instructions from Team Lead and/or Manager.
- Identify and pull weeds, empty dead pots, cut back plants.
- Pick best quality plants, tag, label, and transport from the nursery locations to the loading dock per list for shipping. Load/unload shipping racks on loading dock in/out of delivery vehicles.
- Fill flats, unload trays, and plant in the open fields.
- Transport plants from one greenhouse to another.
- Keep track of all tools and equipment and safely store at the end of every day. Clean, remove trash, and sweep work area at the end of each day.
- Pot plants with(out) the use of equipment. Transport and/or unload wagons to nursery locations.
- Seed, stick cuttings, label, water, and transport flats of young plants.
- Notify the Team Lead and/or Manager of any pest and disease problems.
- Assist with basic maintenance activities.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The Nursery Laborer works a varied schedule. The Nursery Laborer reports to many supervisors over the course of the season and will be expected to work as directed by team leaders as well. The work environment is both inside the greenhouses and outdoors. The Nursery Laborer must be willing to work in all weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and wet conditions. The Nursery Laborer spends a great deal of time squatting, kneeling, bending, and standing throughout the day without sitting and lifting and carrying for up to 3 hours at a time. Stress fluctuates from low to moderate due to seasonal time pressures. The Nursery Laborer needs to be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain, visually inspect plants, hear within an adequate range to respond to radio communication, and hear approaching equipment in areas of limited sight or from behind, below, or above.
