What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cell Operations Material Planner position at Rivian Automotive?
Role Summary:
The Cell Operations Material Planner is responsible to ensure ‘on-time’ delivery of launch/trial parts from Rivian suppliers, to include daily monitoring of shipping performance as well as delivery verification in support of our pre series production development builds.
The opening will be located at our Hayward, CA facility and reports directly to a Cell Operations Production Manager.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning and ordering of time-critical materials to support Cell Operations organization.
- Provide cross functional teams overview of parts supply concerns for your given supply base (May include Program, Procurement, Logistics, Material Handling, Engineering, Quality Control and Manufacturing).
- Ensure demand from all sources (engineering, quality, manufacturing, etc.) is supported appropriately.
- Facilitate the allocation of inventory based on build or project priority.
- Identify key forecasting dependencies and complex trends for the cell manufacturing environment when historical data metrics are limited.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including but not limited to Purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, etc.
- Maintaining optimal inventory levels while minimizing freight cost.
- Identify and lead process improvement projects related to execution and planned growth for our new product launches; including understanding BOM structures related to forecasting.
- Build and maintain operational partnerships with assigned suppliers. Act as the primary interface with suppliers on delivery status, issues and resolution.
- Responsible for tracking metrics on assigned activities in order to drive results and continuous improvements in Department activity.
- Responsible for leading meetings related to part shortages, supplier constraints, internal and external planning, and supplier metrics.
- Ensure demand from all sources (production, aftermarket, engineering, etc.) is supported appropriately. Manage planning system parameters and master data to optimally reflect supply chain capabilities and plan supply.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or master’s degree in supply chain, Finance, Industrial Engineering or similar discipline or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
- CPIM or APIC training preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 year of Material Planning or Supply Chain experience required, battery or volume manufacturing environment preferred.
- Must be able to analyze, evaluate and react to all issues and concerns that have the potential of adversely affecting the testing and manufacturing schedule.
- Strong knowledge of MRP processes; SAP experience (preferred), with a solid understand of discrete manufacturing, bills of material, product lifecycle management, procure to pay processes and supply chain operations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to evaluate and analyze data to present clear recommendations to leadership.
- Demonstrate skills in supplier operational and relationship management.
- Ability to write, speak and present effectively and persuasively.
- Ability to work independently on multiple tasks and projects in a dynamic, fast paced environment. Flexibility and adaptability are key.
- Proficient in Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Passion for results, strategy, and hands on execution.
- Ability to develop result driven data, lead meetings and create PowerPoint presentations.
- Flexibility in work schedule is required (to include evenings and weekends, as needed).
