We are seeking a Controller to join a local Non-Profit, located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. You will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations, developing financial policies, managing budget processes, and providing financial reports. You will ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls, support strategic financial planning, and oversee the financial management of grants and contracts. Additionally, you will provide leadership to the accounting team and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions
- Monitor cash flow, manage budgeting and forecasting processes, and provide regular financial reports
- Ensure accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards
- Manage the year-end audit process, including coordination with external auditors and preparation of audit schedules
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies, and procedures
- Support the CFO in long-term financial planning, forecasting, and strategic decision-making
- Conduct financial analysis and modeling to assess the financial feasibility of new initiatives, projects, and grant proposals
- Complete statutory reporting
- Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, implementing efficient financial processes and leveraging technology to streamline operations
- Minimum of 5 years of experience, with non-profit or retail experience a plus
- Familiarity with Month-end Close Activities and preparation of Monthly Financial Statements
- Expertise in managing Fixed Assets and Journal Entries
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred
- CPA or relevant certification is a plus.
