The Summer @ Roche Intern Program has been developed to provide students with a fun yet rewarding summer through hands-on experience and numerous opportunities to network with other interns as well as employees in the organization. This position is based in Pleasanton, CA- Onsite
Key Responsibilities:
Perform synthesis of novel dye molecules for PCR
Chemical synthesis, purification, and analysis of novel fluorescent dyes.
Analytics and quality control of prepared dye molecules and their precursors.
Application of dye reagents in solid phase DNA synthesis.
Program Highlights
Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start date is in mid to late June (Summer).
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
Required Education:
Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Organic Chemistry
Must have attained a Master's Degree OR pursuing a PhD program in Chemistry or Organic Chemistry (enrolled student).
Required Qualifications:
Must have at least one year of laboratory experience in synthesizing organic compounds for research and that the candidate can work independently with minimal supervision.
Must be competent in isolation and purification of organic compounds by flash column chromatography or other purification methods. Experience in using anhydrous techniques preferred.
Demonstrates solid knowledge in general organic chemistry.
Has good communication skills and is willing to learn what is required to do assigned job efficiently.
Program Requirements:
Minimum availability of 12 weeks.
Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university during program calendar year.

Synthesis of fluorescent dye reagents for automated DNA synthesis technologies.
Apply High Performance Liquid Chromatography purification and analytical techniques.
Automated DNA Synthesis approaches.
Preferred Qualifications:
High level of organization and detailed record-keeping skills in experimental documentation.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Optional: Working knowledge of automated nucleic acid synthesis and phosphoramidite chemistry would be valuable.
This internship position is located in Pleasanton, on site. Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $24.00 - $45.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
