Job Overview:

Prosecute criminal cases in General District, Juvenile and Domestic Relations and Circuit courts, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Commonwealth’s Attorney. Prospective hire will receive training, guidance and supervision as needed to develop trial skills. Candidates should be able to exercise independent judgement and initiative. Prior criminal justice experience preferred but not required.

Candidates must be a member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar or waiting for Virginia Bar results.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct legal research using various resources such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw
  • Assist with legal administrative tasks, including drafting legal documents, preparing briefs, and organizing case files
  • Participate in client meetings and assist with case management
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop case strategies and litigation plans
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, including hearings and trials
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients
  • Write legal memoranda and opinions based on research findings

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law in the state
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in legal research tools such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
