POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for the supervision and management of all facets of assigned total health and wellness programs in accordance with the vision and policies established by the Harrison Family YMCA. This position is the Health and Wellness champion for the Harrison Family YMCA. In addition to being responsible for the day-to-day operations and long-term planning of the Healthy Living Department, the Healthy Living Director assists each department by providing resources and support to help implement and maintain quality of health and wellness in their programs. We are looking for a vibrant and innovative leader to join our team. This position will report directly to the Senior Engagement Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Develop, implement and oversee all health and wellness programs that reflect the community’s needs and maintain the YMCA’s high standards of quality, safety and character development.
2. Hire, train, supervise and evaluate coordinators and part-time staff, directing and influencing staff on best practices and protocols.
3. Integrate a comprehensive health and wellness approach in all wellness programs for children, youth, teens, adults, and special populations.
4. Develop and implement annual budgets for programs, staff wages, and manage agreed upon budgets within operating guidelines. Complete and manage payroll minimizing overtime and being a good fiscal steward.
5. Manage all Evidence Based Health Initiative and Chronic Disease programs.
6. Cultivate relationships and recruit volunteers for the Annual Campaign.
7. Maintain accurate records of staff certifications and ensure all certifications are renewed as needed.
8. Responsible for program and membership enrollment, retention, and evaluation.
9. Oversee all purchases, maintain department related supplies within budget guidelines, and maintain a clean and safe program area.
10. Responsible for ensuring all equipment is in working order. Coordinate and schedule equipment maintenance and repairs as needed.
11. Accountable for floor coverage schedule 100% of operating hours and gym monitor and group exercise schedule as needed seasonally.
12. Participate in staff meetings and professional training as appropriate.
13. Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA’s mission and goals.
14. Act as a role model and incorporate character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into the daily operation of the wellness department.
15. Understand the relationship of the general public to the association, of staff to volunteer, and of staff to staff, and be able to effectively enhance and cultivate those relationships.
16. Assume other duties deemed necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Certifications required within 30 days of hire: American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid; the following training provided by the Y: Child Sexual Abuse Prevention, Managing your Risk of Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, and Hazard Communication for Employees.
2. Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science, or a related field from an accredited college or university, 1-3 years practical experience in a health and fitness-related position, or have comparable level of expertise.
3. Must have experience in recruiting, training and motivating people and must understand the importance of retention.
4. Experience in personal training, and health and wellness programming preferred.
5. Group exercise certification required within 6 months of hire.
6. Strong supervisory and leadership skills must have been obtained and demonstrated through past job experiences.
7. Background in internal marketing/special events preferred.
8. Ability to interpret, carry out and implement into programs, the mission and goals of the YMCA.
9. Ability to supervise staff and volunteers while actively handling a variety of functions at the same time.
10. Valid NC Driver’s License.
11. Ability to travel on a flexible schedule as needed with a driving record that meets YMCA policies.
12. Proof of auto insurance on vehicle used is required.
