What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal position at ROCS Grad Staffing?
Responsibilities of the Paralegal:
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and firm policies
- Request and reconcile updated account statements from management or online sources, ensuring accuracy before pursuing legal action
- Prepare cases for attorneys ahead of court dates
- Update account balances, communicate with attorneys on necessary actions, and prepare all related paperwork including praecipes, affidavits, and garnishment dispositions
- Review the final docket with the attorney before court dates
- Process account payments and prepare transmittal memos for clients regarding payment applications
- Review team status reports monthly, ensuring account balances and statuses are updated for each account
- Coordinate actions on accounts with the team attorney
- Prepare account information for credit bureau reporting and submit it to the team attorney for review
- Review and sort incoming mail, identify time-sensitive documents, and notify the attorney
- Monitor all court dates, prepare dockets for attorneys, oversee payment arrangements, and notify attorneys of any defaults or deadlines for legal action
- Gather account information and prepare payoff statements upon request
- Adhere to the ethical requirements set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the State, maintaining the confidentiality of the attorney-client relationship
- Accurately draft letters, memos, and various legal documents such as liens, promissory notes, suits, and garnishments, using appropriate legal terminology and document formats
- Proofread all work to ensure complete accuracy
- Bill time according to the fee schedule policy, using appropriate task codes
- Maintain telephone contact with clients and delinquent homeowners as needed
- Meet with clients and delinquent homeowners to resolve account issues as required
- Complete critical tasks within specified time limits
Qualifications of the Paralegal:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 3-5 years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal
- Exceptional math skills to verify calculations in work product
- Some knowledge and/or understanding of collections as a specialty area of law practice
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize numerous tasks and complete all work assigned within prescribed deadlines
- The capacity to communicate clearly and professionally, with clients, attorneys and other team members, both speaking and in writing
