Job Purpose
To work with dentists to create corrective devices and prostheses for dental patients. Following the dentist's specifications, a dental lab technician replicates the natural shape of the patient’s mouth while also keeping aesthetics in mind. The goal of a dental lab technician is to assemble an appliance or prosthetic that looks and feels natural in the patient’s mouth.
Duties and Responsibilities
Read and follow prescriptions and instructions given by customer and examine models or impressions to determine the design of dental products to be constructed.
Fabricate, alter, or repair dental devices, such as crowns, bridges, inlays, or appliances following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and work instructions for specifically assigned work duties and responsibilities.
Test appliances/prosthetics for conformance to specifications and accuracy of occlusion, using articulators and micrometers.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred
One or more of the following required:
Completion of Dental Lab Technician Trainee program
Minimum of 1 year Dental Lab Technician experience required
Preferred skills include excellent eye-hand coordination, attention to minute details, ability to recognize the differences in color and shape, manual dexterity and interest in material sciences and emerging technologies.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
