Thrift Shop Retail Clerk/Cashier
Full Time - 40 Hours Per Week
Job Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Reports to: The Thrift Shop Manager
Objective and Purpose
Rogue Retreat’s Thrift Shop Cashier is the first impression made on each shopper and is the “face” of the Thrift Shop. It is very important that the cashier is friendly, approachable and knowledgeable about the Thrift Shop and mission and programs of Rogue Retreat. The primary responsibility of the cashier is to quickly and accurately enter sales into the cash register and handle payment transactions. The cashier will open and/or close the shop when needed. When not occupied at the cash register, this position will assist with restocking merchandise, perform light housekeeping duties and file paperwork, inputting daily totals, preparing for sales events, assist the manager with daily business and supervising volunteers and job trainees.
Required Qualifications
- The Thrift Shop Cashier is an entry level position with no educational or experience requirements
- If you have a substance use disorder (addiction) you must have at least 2 years clean since your last use
- Perform basic math operations.
- Professional appearance, friendly manner, dependable and punctual
- Ability to supervise volunteers and trainees
- Spanish is a plus!
Preferred Qualifications
· 2 or more years of verifiable work history
· Current valid driver’s license
· Ability to read and write in English.
· Competent with basic computer skills.
Essential Functions
Handle sales at cash register.
Smile and greet customers as they enter and leave the shop. Assist with shopping needs.
Professionally and efficiently handle customer calls
Model respectful interaction with staff, volunteers, customers and donors.
Keep the shop and surrounding area neat, clean and attractive.
Provide accurate end-of-day sales reports and balance your register till.
Ability to work as a team member.
Attend trainings and staff meetings as needed.
Sign in and out each day, assist volunteers signing in and out each day.
Be punctual and dress appropriately.
Flexibility to shift hours if needed.
Ability to work with diverse people and/or populations and treat each person with dignity and respect.
Help rotate clothing, housewares and other goods, design attractive displays.
Ability to open and close the shop as needed.
Supervise and direct volunteers in the absence of the Manager.
Learn to sort and price donated merchandise
Take photos of merchandise for online advertising.
Plan and setup sales events.
Support volunteers and answer questions.
Assist the manager with daily shop business
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to work in a merchandising setting and lift up to 20 lbs., ask for assistance with moving awkward objects.
· Manual dexterity capable of operating cash register, clean and repair merchandise.
· Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and kneel to handle merchandise.
· Ability to reach above and below shoulder to set out merchandise.
· Frequent standing and occasional periods of sitting.
· Ability to be on feet majority of workday.
Working Conditions
· Indoor retail setting with occasional outdoor tasks.
· Indoor retail setting with moderate foot traffic and variable noise depending on number of customers in shop.
· Indoor setting can be cold or hot depending on the season.
· Indoor lighting can be bright or low depending on area.
