Job Title: Accounting Specialist Department: Finance Reports To: Finance Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Wage Range: $29.45 - $35.48

SUMMARY Under general direction of the Finance Manager, this position may be responsible for payables, receivables, payroll, sales and various administrative/accounting record-keeping and clerical duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Processes accounts payable and prints checks and reports.
  • Processes accounts receivable, prepares cash deposits, keeps ledgers up to date, and reconciles bank statements as needed.
  • Verifies bills from suppliers for accuracy.
  • Creates/compiles various daily/monthly and other reports, i.e., sales, farebox revenue.
  • Supplies tokens and passes to various requesting organizations.
  • Assists with counting and deposits of farebox revenue as needed.
  • Assists with general administration duties, such as answering telephones, greeting customers, processing in and outgoing mail, and filing.
  • Assures all duties are performed in a manner that will be compliant with laws and collective bargaining agreement.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and adhere to all RVTD policies and procedures.
  • Act as a positive representative of the District.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three to Five (3-5) years’ experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger and other accounting functions, and other clerical duties.

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Computer proficient with Microsoft 365 (Office) including Excel.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, government regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use the hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk; and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include visual acuity at close range and at a distance.
