INTRODUCTION :
The Bishop of Manchester is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the diocese entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community.
To fulfill his mission, the Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocesan Administration helps to extend the ministry of the Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.
All employees of the diocesan administration assist the Bishop of Manchester in serving the parishes, schools and institutions of the Catholic Church in New Hampshire.
This is a Full-Time, non-exempt position reporting to the Facilities Manager of Camp Bernadette and Camp Fatima.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
This position provides and maintains, in an efficient manner, the facilities, equipment, and furnishings at Camp Bernadette and Camp Fatima, so that all campers, staff, and the community are assured of clean, safe, attractive, and healthy places in which to learn, play, and work.
The Maintenance Technician works in collaboration with the Facilities Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure proper quality, function, and safety of property, buildings, and equipment
- Perform various carpentry and maintenance duties to ensure quality upkeep of all buildings including roofs, siding, foundations, doors, shutters, decks, ramps, plumbing, and electrical
- Collaborate with Facilities Manager to create long- and short-term maintenance schedules through regular inspections
- Complete Capital Improvement projects selected by the Board of Directors and assigned by the Facilities Director
- Take on special carpentry or improvement projects, as deemed necessary by the Facilities Director, to enhance the overall appearance or function of the camp, special spaces, or program
- Assist with snow removal tasks including plowing, shoveling, sanding / salting roadways and walkways
- Identify, mitigate, or report potential safety issues
- Repair or replace defective appliances, fixtures, or equipment
- Maintain and conserve equipment, parts, supplies, and materials inventory efficiently
- Lead volunteer groups to complete various projects identified by Facilities Director
- Assist maintenance team with startup and shutdown procedures
- Observe Best Building Practices
- Provide Maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks and results as needed
- Assist maintenance team with various tasks and projects when needed
- Complete any related tasks assigned by the Facilities Director
Requirements :
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrate general knowledge of construction, safety, plumbing, and electrical
- Hold and maintain a valid driver's license with no serious violations
- Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative
- Ability to stay motivated and productive with limited oversight
- Complete Safe Environment requirements
- Complete background and driving record checks
- Must be able to follow direction and work both independently and with others
- Attention to detail
- Flexibility
- Ability to work with others and lead volunteer groups
ENVIRONMENT :
- Maintenance sheds : Clean, well lit, and environmentally comfortable, with possible exposure to fumes or airborne particles
- Minimal exposure to chemicals related to cleaning supplies and power equipment
- Frequent reaching overhead and below shoulder level required
- Ability to frequently lift 80 lbs.
- Hand manipulation of equipment and controls, frequent grasping and handling
- Ability to work flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and on-call
- Mobility includes regular standing, climbing, stretching and walking
- Frequent lifting of heavy objects when necessary
- Exposure to a variety of weather conditions
- Frequent exposure to loud equipment and tools
