Job Description
***Only qualified Data Modeler candidates located near the Chicago, IL area to be considered due to the position requiring an onsite presence***
Qualifications (Must-Have):
• 8-12 years of development experience, including:
• 10 years of SQL expertise (complex queries, data modeling)
• 3 years of PowerBI development demonstrating advanced skills, especially with DAX
• Expertise in ETL, data warehouse, data lakes, and multi-data-center environments
• Strong knowledge of metadata management, data modeling tools (Erwin, ER Studio), and version control using GIT
• Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Nice to Haves:
• Experience with Object-Oriented Framework development, Azure (ADF, ADLS, Synapse), or Collibra for data governance
The client is seeking a Senior Data Modeler to expand and enhance their common data model, supporting PowerBI dashboards for internal business insights. The role requires extensive experience in SQL, PowerBI development, and data modeling to ensure consistency, performance, and scalability across dashboards. The modeler will collaborate with various teams (Product Manager, data architects, engineers, BAs) and must have strong expertise in ETL, complex SQL queries, and metadata management. Additional skills in Azure, Object-Oriented Frameworks, and data governance tools like Collibra are desirable. The position is hybrid, with 3 days onsite in Chicago or Tempe, AZ.
Key Responsibilities:
• Work with the Product Manager to expand the common data model, ensuring performance, security, and scalability
• Develop, enhance, and implement conceptual, logical, and relational data models to underpin flexible, interactive PowerBI reports and dashboards
• Maintain the data dictionary and ensure consistency across all dashboards
• Collaborate with data architects, engineers, business analysts (BAs), and PowerBI developers to ensure alignment and successful implementation of the model
• Apply SQL skills to support and adapt the data model for various applications
• Contribute to knowledge transfer sessions and follow Northern Trust’s guidelines for enterprise data model development
