What are the responsibilities and job description for the CTE- FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE EDUCATION position at Rowan-Salisbury Schools?
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten Months
Reports to: Principal or Designee
Purpose: The Career & Technical Education teacher provides leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students; provides supervision to students in a variety of school related settings; monitors and evaluates student outcomes; develops, selects or modifies lesson plans to ensure all student needs are met; maintains appropriate records and follows all policies and procedures of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and Rowan-Salisbury Schools.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Knowledge of NC curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, Rowan-Salisbury Schools' policies, and effective instructional practices.- Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
- Participates in district and school-based professional development activities
- Provides rigorous and relevant instruction on approved hands-on curriculum in the content area and general work-place readiness
- Administers a variety of student assessment tools
- Develops and maintains positive and cooperative interactions and communications with parents, colleagues and community
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by the district and state laws
- Maintains and updates industry certifications
- Collaborates with core content teachers on common instructional objectives, integration and alignment
- Develop lesson plans based on the North Carolina Career & Technical Education Essential Standards document.
- Utilize classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate.
- Use appropriate techniques and strategies which promote and enhance critical, creative and innovative thinking capabilities of students.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Follow all safety procedures.
- Provide normal maintenance of equipment to ensure that inventory is up to date and available.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- NC Teaching Certification – Family & Consumer Science Education – Licensure area 710 or 714
- The 40-hour New Teacher Induction Program approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Division of Career and Technical Education.
- Bachelor’s degree in area of licensure with two years industry-related work experience within the past five years.
- 710 (General) - Examples of Related Degrees: Family and Consumer Sciences; Youth, Family and Community Sciences; Family and Community Services
- 714 (Child Development/Family Studies)– Examples of Related Degrees: Child Development and Family Relations, Family Studies, Child Psychology, Human Development
- To teach Counseling and Mental Health I/II – Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
- Professionals with related work experience and industry credentials would also be considered.
- Work experience must be in a related work field.

Physical and Cognitive Responsibilities:
- Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
- The work requires effective communication using speech, vision and hearing.
Skills / Abilities:
- Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, prioritize projects, plan starting and ending deadlines, and successfully bring closure to projects.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability and desire to seek and pass on knowledge to others in an educational/learning environment.
- Proficiency in common computer desktop applications required.
General Knowledge:
- Knowledge of North Carolina Career & Technical Education Essential Standards.
- Knowledge of Rowan-Salisbury Schools’ Renewal Direction System.
- Knowledge of Rowan-Salisbury Schools’ policies, rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of General Statute 115C of the NC State Law concerning Public Education.
- Knowledge of federal legislation, specifically the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Carl D. Perkins legislation.)
Salary : $43,300 - $54,900
