MSAD #6 is currently seeking a Custodial Supervisor to join our facilities team.
Job Goal: Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the District Custodial Supervisor manages the day-to-day custodial services operations for all District facilities. The District Custodial Supervisor is responsible for daily planning, cleaning, and disinfecting of all District facilities. The supervisor is responsible for the scheduling of custodial staff to ensure cleaning tasks are completed daily and inspection of facilities, supplies, and equipment at each facility in addition to training. In addition to being a resource to the custodial staff and building principals, the supervisor is expected to work closely with the District maintenance staff to respond to emergency calls.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Formulates plans for improving custodial programs and implementing seasonal custodial projects.
- Recommends and initiates the purchase of custodial supplies and equipment.
- Advises Facilities Manager on custodial standards and procedures.
- Processes custodial supply and equipment requests; monitors inventory and re-orders, as necessary.
- Develops custodial procedures and work methods.
- Reviews custodial staff daily absences.
- Initiates and maintains records of all productivity information, prepares pertinent reports, and processes daily paperwork.
- Monitors custodial staff job performance by scheduled building visits and conducts periodic inspections of all custodial work shifts.
- Assesses custodial job performance and recommends disciplinary action to the Facilities Manager
- Establishes and maintains sound interdepartmental working relationships.
- Designates custodial work shifts and work area assignments and authorizes the use of sick, personal, vacation, and overtime requests.
- Directs the maintenance, repair, and replacement of all custodial equipment.
- Develops and maintains a training program for custodial personnel.
- Demonstrates new equipment and methods.
- Interviews and recommends applicants for custodial positions.
- Arranges and assigns substitute relief coverage for daily staff absences and coverage for evening and weekend use of facilities.
- Identifies employee resources and expertise and utilizes employee experiences and skills to plan, schedule, assign, and perform custodial and other activities.
- Conducts on-the-job training, schedules personnel effectively, and leads and assigns the work of a large staff.
- Maintains an accurate record of shift attendance and ensures that employee time sheets are properly filled out prior to submission to payroll.
- Works with building and program administrators to coordinate essential custodial support at special events, athletic activities, banquets, department moves or changes, and/or other applicable events that effect the assigned staffing.
- Provides input and submits budget recommendations for district-wide custodial budget. Monitors and oversees custodial expenses to ensure conformance to budget constraints.
- Participates in identifying, recommending, and implementing opportunities for improved custodial services.
- Requisitions services, supplies, equipment, and materials to ensure efficient custodial operations of District facilities.
- Utilizes Computerized Maintenance System for data recording, communication, tracking work orders, etc.
- Ensures that custodial building requests are completed in an appropriate and timely manner and closed or referred according to department procedures.
- Designated as “essential” personnel and responds to calls at all hours. Responsible for assessing, reporting, and advising Facilities Manager regarding the operational status of facilities during emergencies and extreme weather events.
- Directs the removal of snow, ice, and the clearing of walkways and steps for the safety of students, staff, and community members.
- May be called upon to lead and/or participate in department and district-wide committees.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma required. Custodial cleaning and general maintenance training gained through special schools or seminars is desirable. A minimum of five years of custodial experience is required, of which at least two years shall have been in a supervisory capacity, preferably in a public school setting. Knowledge of custodial equipment/materials, effective cleaning techniques, and OSHA requirements. Proven experience in working collaboratively with a variety of people at various levels and with diverse backgrounds. Must have a strong desire to lead employees for the betterment of the District and have an attitude that is positive and supportive of District goals.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in written and oral communication. Ability to effectively communicate in order to properly supervise, train, develop, and motivate assigned staff.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to learn, interpret, and develop detailed custodial plans, and work procedures.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Sufficient strength, dexterity, and mobility to perform all required functions including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places, and work at those places. Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers are required. Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, pushing, standing, stooping, and walking, crawling, climbing, crouching, and reaching are also required to perform the essential functions of the job..
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and color vision. Sufficient visual acuity to detect faults (poor cleaning techniques, improper materials, etc.)
Working Conditions:
Must be willing and able to work in confined spaces; tiring and uncomfortable positions; from ladders, scaffolds, roofs, etc.; to work out-of-doors in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions; and to travel to multiple job locations in the course of the day as may be required in order to perform the essential functions of this position. Work Year: Fifty-two (52) weeks per year (260 days).
Wages and Benefits: As determined by the MSAD 6 Board of Directors on an annual basis.
