Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare balanced and nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with established menus, dietary guidelines, and portion sizes. Prepare most meals from scratch.
- Become familiar with and follow all CACFP guidelines and regulations.
- Ensure that all meals and snacks meet the nutritional needs of children based on their age group
- Follow proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices
- Monitor inventory of food supplies and ingredients
- Adhere to budgetary constraints while procuring and managing food supplies.
- Maintain accurate records of meals served
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions on nutrition, food safety, and child health.
- Clean and maintain the kitchen area, including equipment, utensils, and storage spaces.
- Prior experience as cook/chef
- Knowledge of nutrition and dietary guidelines
- Ability to prepare meals from scratch.
- Familiarity with food safety and sanitation regulations and practices.
- Excellent culinary skills, including meal planning, food preparation, and presentation.
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods
- Flexibility to accommodate occasional changes in menus or schedules.
- A current Food Handler's Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- A genuine passion for cooking and promoting healthy eating habits among children.
