What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Manager position at Rumpke of Ohio?
Operations Managers are responsible for the adherence to operating standards, the development of supervisory goals and objectives, and the management of labor hours and disposal expenses. This position oversees all operational aspects of the hauling business. Operations Managers implement operating procedures and ensure standards are met. The hours and physical demand may vary by location.
Responsibilities of Position:
- Perform all tasks in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the location and provide leadership and support to managers in ensuring quality and budget performance. To include P & L reviews to ensure that budgets are met.
- Monitor budget and operating metrics while diagnosing and improving processes, procedures, and performance.
- Managing staff by hiring, training, performance management, counseling, and safety. Which includes, maintaining proper records and files.
- Interact with local, city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, negotiate new contracts, and ensure regulatory compliance standards.
- Conduct investigations for accidents, incidents, and property damage claims, completing accurate and detailed reports, and necessary follow-up, to ensure all compliance goals are at or exceeded expectations.
- Develop and implement programs for optimal equipment utilization by working with maintenance department to monitor and improve fleet utilization, repair, and maintenance costs.
- Approve expenses and manage budget for the operations department.
- Formulate short- and long-term goals and action plans with the Regional Vice President.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with employees, co-workers, and management.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of routing and contract requirements.
- Demonstrated problem solving, analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Computer skills; proficient in Windows and Microsoft applications.
- Ability to prioritize work and the placement of personnel, equipment, and material.
Physical Requirements in a Regular workday:
- Frequently lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling a max of 20lbs.
- Occasionally lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling a max of 50lbs.
- Rarely lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling a max of 75lbs.
- Frequently Stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling.
- Occasionally Climbing and/or balancing.
- Continually working inside and outside. With changing temperatures, and wet/humid conditions.
- Continually working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, other airborne matter.
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
- Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Ability to travel between offices, as required.
- Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
- Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language.

Experience
Required- 2 year(s): Previous transportation/fleet management experience.
- Previous management experience.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and requirements (DOT, OSHA).
- Knowledge and experience of the waste industry and hauling operations.
Education
Required- High School or better
- General Education Diploma or better
- Bachelors or better in Relevant field
