Summary
The Pugmill Operators operate the machinery necessary for on-site asphalt mixing. This position will operate the Pugmill as needed. When the Pugmill is not in use, this position will serve as a Laborer or Operator on our Pavement Perseveration crews.
This position requires travel up to 60% of the time including overnight travel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate construction and/or power equipment for use in asphalt paving
- Loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies
- Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor
- Clean equipment
- Use hand tools (brooms, shovels, and squeegees)
- Flagging and general labor as needed
- Follow all safety policies and practices
- All other duties as assigned
Skills and Education
Required
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License
- Two (2) plus years of asphalt machinery experience
- DOT Med Card (Or ability to get one prior to start date)
- DOT Flagger Training Certificate (Or ability to get one prior to start date)
- Aptitude for learning new tasks and skills
Preferred
- CDL Driver’s License (Class A or B)
Job Requirements
- Ability to work in a team environment with other crew members, as well as the ability to work independently without close supervision
- Must be available for overnight travel at job sites
- Must be able to work overtime and have a willingness to be flexible in scheduling
- Ability to work varied shifts and long hours during peak operation times (spring, summer, and fall)
- Ability to safely lift at least 50 pounds and recognize unsafe operating conditions
- Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular movement of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular walking and standing
- Ability to see, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity
Work Environment
Work sites are outdoors and may require that work be done in adverse weather conditions. This position requires its responsibilities to be performed in potentially hazardous traffic conditions. Work conditions may involve exposure to hot materials, chemicals, fumes, dust, odors, gases, and other substances used in a construction environment.
