Posting Summary | Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Technician I for the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility, in Yardville, NJ. The Technician I participates as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team at the Prison. • Takes vital signs, height and weight and documents in electronic medical records (EMR). • Assists the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing the inmate for the examination. • Obtains specimen collection and handling, including, but not limited to, drawing blood. • Assists with the cleaning, sterilization and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit. • Maintains or assists in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering in a timely and appropriate manner. Maintains the supply stock in the examination rooms. • Aggregates the orders of all medications and forwards to the pharmacy provider / local pharmacy. *Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements. |

Physical Demands and Work Environment | PHYSICAL DEMANDS: As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds). Typing, ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments. Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential, extensive reading required, extended sitting and/or standing is required. Intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities, ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities requiring walks, bends, stretches, pushes, and pulls. Hearing is essential, ability to speak clearly is required, required to travel within the state, ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions and on call responsibilities WORK ENVIRONMENT: Able to function in a stressful environment and relates well to patients, security staff and healthcare team members. A generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with adults, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening behavior. Medical Technician must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings. Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers. |

Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
