General Statement of Duties


The Equity, Diversity (Inclusion), and Opportunity Specialist will lead efforts to address systemic equity challenges and to communicate culturally relevant instructional best practices. The position's primary responsibility is to foster an environment of fairness, community, diversity, and inclusion. Assist students and faculty in addressing challenges and opportunities related to equality that affect student learning. Employees will benefit from the specialist's assistance in obtaining a complete understanding of subjects such as equity, belonging, and cultural responsiveness. The specialist is expected to develop, execute, and monitor diversity and equity-promoting initiatives and practices within schools. Create, coordinate, and/or facilitate diversity and equity workshops, presentations, learning opportunities, and equity, diversity (inclusion) efforts.


Essential Duties

Collaborate and partner with members of the Equity, Diversity & Opportunity team and others within the Division to implement Equity, Diversity & Opportunity initiatives supporting the strategic plan.

Serve as a coordinator within the Department of Equity, Diversity & Opportunity, taking leadership on district-level priorities identified in the strategic plan.

Developing and training equity teams to lead the equity work within their school using guiding decisions (i.e., policy, hiring, resource allocation, and intervention) — these questions will be grounded in the twin notions of equity and excellence, growth mindset, and questioning the status quo (i.e., reconsidering routine ways of doing work) to include high proficiency with the disaggregation of data as a determinant.

Providing professional learning and ongoing coaching and support to leadership and staff on using equity, diversity(inclusion), and opportunity lens in their school quality plan process.

Coaching schools to define the purpose of their pursuit of equity AND excellence, which may require them to expand their current definitions based solely on standardized tests and look to additional metrics to determine excellence, including but not limited to school climate (belonging), advanced achievement enrollment, extracurricular activity enrollment, etc. and liaison with these problem-solving teams as they build support for improvement plans based on aggregated achievement and behavior data.

Support grant opportunities in equity, diversity and inclusion to include oversight and budgeting. Provide regular updates on March, 31, 2021 pages 1 of 5 project status, including implementation and outcome data, to the Chief Equity, Diversity, and Opportunity Officer.

Actively promote the work of the Office of Equity Diversity Opportunity through the use of social media, public relations, professional learning, and internal communications.

Organize and coordinate internal and external professional development opportunities for staff which may include the oversight of federal funds.

Work collaboratively with Teaching, Learning and Innovation to support professional learning opportunities in alignment with strategic goals.

Provide professional learning to district-wide staff in Restorative Practices from a culturally responsive lens.

Keep abreast of developments and research in professional development, instructional best practices, and organizational development.

Assist in improving community-wide engagement with diverse populations. Establish and maintain working relationships with community organizations to promote the Division's equity and student achievement initiatives.

Monitor multiple data points to coordinate & collaborate with departments responsible for closing achievement gaps and report findings/recommendations to the Chief EDO Officer.

Work collaboratively with the Department of Community & Family Engagement and outside entities as determined to provide parent workshops and resources as appropriate.

Maintain confidentiality regarding privileged administrative and student information professionally.

Attends work daily with active engagement in job responsibilities.

Attend/present at local, regional, and national conferences.

Perform other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Master’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field required. At least four years prior experience working in a school setting with preference given to those who have served in a leadership capacity. Administration and Supervision endorsement is required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of PK-12 public education institutional and school-based processes, school and community equity issues, data desegregation, as well as equity and culturally responsive best practices. Intermediate to advanced computer skills and experience with various software programs required by the position. Strong organizational/time management skills; ability to multitask in a fast-paced and often stressful environment; demonstrated flexibility regarding job duties and assignments; ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team to organize tasks, problem solve, and make decisions while handling multiple priorities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrated by communicating effectively and congenitally with parents, students, HCPS staff, and community stakeholders. Demonstrated desire and experience working with ethnically diverse populations.

*Minimum annualized salary - $70,585 ( The salary for this position will be prorated based upon the official start date).

* Salary based on the 2022-23 pay scale, subject to change based on adoption of the 2023-24 pay scale.
