What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator (ITL) position at S & K Technologies, Inc.?
The Estimator will analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation in order to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects, and/or services while applying knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, principals, and processes. The ideal candidate will be capable of working with minimal oversight but willing to follow directions and adhere to construction industry standards closely.
Estimating
- Prepare cost estimates ranging in size from $50,000-$50M.
- Analyzes blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Assesses cost effectiveness of projects and tracks actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
- Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.
- Confers with management, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Consults with engineers, clients, vendors, and construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Work with ITL purchasing department or directly with vendors to obtain material and subcontractor pricing.
- Reviews material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
- Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes, such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness. Estimates to be prepared using estimating software, MS Excel, and MS Project.
- Conduct estimate reviews with management using reports from estimating software and MS Excel.
- Maintain and update part numbers, material libraries, and resource libraries in estimating software.
- May specialize according to particular service performed, type or product manufactured, or phase of work involved, such as tools and fixture costs, production costs, construction costs, or material costs.
- Participates in weekly Management staff meetings.
- Visits project sites prior to bid and during construction.
- Develops long-term plans and programs to evaluate work accomplishments.
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Reporting
- Perform job related reporting requirements per contract and ITL corporate policies and practices.
- Provide daily production data to or for supervisors as requested.
- Perform accurate timecard updates daily and sign timecards weekly as required to support reporting and payroll activities.

- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Cooperate with safety personnel, supervisors, managers, and investigators to ensure proper procedures are carried out according with the company and customer’s safety policies.
- Identify and report safety violations to safety personnel, supervisors, managers.
- Support safety meetings, training sessions, and inspections

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction, Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering Required
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a position where estimating was the primary function - prefer heavy civil construction or commercial industries
