Inspectors can reside anywhere within an hour of the project site and are not expected to report to the office. They will have access to a company vehicle and report directly to the project sites.

Job Snapshot:
- Track the project development schedules for bridge and roadway projects to capture and address required utility relocations
- Coordinate the design and management of identified utility relocations and protection of existing utility facilities
- Complete plan reviews for utility relocations of both wet and dry utilities, providing feedback to design engineers and NCDOT staff with concerns about constructability, environmental permitting, and right-of-way needs for proposed utility relocations
- Work with utility owners to understand their relocation needs and schedules and to establish encroachment and utility relocation agreements
- Facilitate utility relocations prior to and/or during construction activities to accommodate schedule restraints
- Organize and lead utility preconstruction meetings to discuss plans, specifications, and schedules prior to the installation of new utility facilities
- Promote communication between stakeholders (contractors, utility owners, and NCDOT).
- Coordinate with NCDOT and CEI utility field staff to track relocation efforts to understand when utility relocations are complete and project construction is clear to proceed
Utility Coordinators are subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and to various types of weather and field conditions, including heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, hazards of highway construction sites and heavy equipment, and may travel/work extended hours, weekends and/or holidays.
Pay rate is based on level of experience. Additional incentives are available for existing applicable certifications.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, Geomatics, or a related field, and 3 years of experience with utility construction and/or relocation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Excellent time management and project management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and written) with contractors, NCDOT representatives, utility owners, and others as needed
- Ability to work well independently or with limited supervision
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with NCDOT Construction projects
- Knowledge of NCDOT Utilities Accommodation Manual
- Experience with NCDOT HiCAMS and SharePlus software
- Basic knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCad
