The Role: Principal Architect
GL: 13 (relevant for internal use only)
Location: United States hybrid or virtual; EST hours required.
The Market Intelligence CTO organization drives to be the best-in-class information and solutions provider by embracing technology innovation, data insight and by leveraging technology to solve customer’s challenges in a diverse marketplace. This includes practical engagement with all business units on product design, architecture, technology selection and governance. The office strives for horizontal alignments across all business units to benefit from economies of scale. In certain cases, the office will utilize capital investment on key initiatives to deliver immediate value or remediate high risk areas through structured programs. Maintains a focus on innovation to keep ahead of market trends in an effort to create new business value.
Position summary
The Market Intelligence, Platforms and Channels division is focused on transforming the myriad of technologies and platforms that exist today into a unified data pipeline. Our principal architects are key to realizing our vision of a set of cohesive capabilities that enable the business to rapidly develop and evolve data assets and insights through amazing stakeholder experiences. As a group, we want to modernize our entire business with strategic deployments of open source, cross cloud, and emerging technologies and solutions. We strive to keep the development community and other stakeholders within their workflows. As cultural leaders, we expect our principal architects to help evolve our architecture and engineering disciplines.
Responsibilities:
- Become a subject matter expert on the requirements, architecture, design, and development process of the solutions, systems, and capabilities within a unit of the Market Intelligence, Platforms and Channels division Engage with senior leadership, architects, and engineers to design, document, and evangelize the architecture for the solutions, systems, and capabilities required to achieve our vision of a more cohesive, unified content and data pipeline
- Leverage your knowledge and domain expertise to guide the technology organization through their transformation journey
- Dive-in to high risk or complex problems in both an architecture and engineering capacity
- Be a permanent member of the Architecture Decision Council, a small cohort of principal architects and engineers that acts as a consensus-based decision making body for high-impact architectural decisions
- Be a leader and mentor for aspiring architects and engineers at all levels within the organization
- Earn the respect of all engineers through thoughtful and useful engagement as a trusted advisor
- Be willing to help a junior team member with even the most seemingly mundane tasks
- Treat every engagement as an opportunity to learn, not just to teach
What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
- Technical experience, including domain experience designing and architecting big data solutions
- Extensive experience in one or more major cloud platform providers (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience with big data technologies or their derivatives, such as Spark, Presto, and Delta Lake
- Experience with streaming technologies or their derivatives, such as Kafka, NiFi, and NATs
- Experience with new and emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions in the technology space
- Experience with software lifecycle, build tools, and architecting / developing software for scalable, distributed systems
- Experience understanding data and information management as it relates to big data trends and issues within businesses
- Comfortable communicating with executives in both business and technology
- Communicate, influence, and escalate effectively, with the ability to work cross-functionally with multiple teams and stakeholders
- Clear concise communicator both written and verbal. Able to understand and express complex concepts is essential
- Collaboration is a key tenant of the role, both internally and more broadly with stakeholders and members of the extended team.

- General understanding of the financial services industry economics, business benefits and commercial realities in delivering solutions from both as a supplier and the customer's perspectives.

Compensation/Benefits Information:
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is 125,900 - $250,000. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.
