What are the responsibilities and job description for the ACADEMIC COACH position at SA Youth?
Position Summary
The Academic Coach plays a pivotal role in the SOAR! program at The YASS Center. Our program provides unhoused young adults between the ages of 18 to 24 with an opportunity to complete their education by earning a high school diploma. The Academic Coach is responsible for guiding students through their online session modules as well as providing leadership, communication, resume-building, and mock interview lessons. Additionally, the Academic Coach will provide career assessments and career readiness opportunities to aid students in identifying personal, educational and career goals and paths that utilize both skills and interests to guide students down a path of individual success.
Job Function
Instruct, monitor, and facilitate students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
Assists with student recruitment, assessment, and selection.
Establish and enforce rules and procedures and use trauma-informed care strategies and methods to manage student behavior in the classroom.
Researches and implements best practices for high school diploma instruction.
Maintain accurate and complete records of student's progress and development.
Assesses student learning using proven methods to include evaluation and surveys.
Provides Pre- and Post-Assessments for progress and reporting purposes.
Keeps the Director informed of student concerns and student progress.
Helps students make informed decisions about educational program selection and services.
Integrates workforce training, leadership development, and financial literacy into classroom instruction and overall service delivery.
Provides reports and submits data as required.
Monitors and provides direct instruction in core areas of need for each student.
Works with other team members to schedule graduation ceremonies and celebrations as appropriate.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines and good time management skills.
Demonstrate preparation and skill in working in an environment of diversity, inclusion, and equity.
All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education & Experience
License & Certification (Must be maintained throughout employment.)
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree
Teaching Certification (Secondary, Grades 6-12)
Three (3) years of experience working with historically underserved students in a middle school or high school setting or in a non-profit agency.
