What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tour Guide position at Sacramento History Museum?
The Sacramento History Museum is looking for reliable self-starters with can-do attitudes, integrity, enthusiasm, a sense of fun, and a driven work ethic, to lead Underground Tours, Underground After Hours Adult tours, and Old Sac Paranormal Investigation tours in the Old Sacramento Historic District.
We are looking for guides who can portray the following characters in addition to other character portrayals from Sacramento’s past:
- Elizabeth Thorn Scott Flood (an African American school-teacher in 1850's Sacramento)
-Lucinda Lanos (French hat-maker in the 1850's)
-Charles Hackett (African American hotel-owner in the late 1850's-1860's)
-Yee Fung Cheung (Chinese doctor and herbalist)
Tour guides must be professional, have experience working with the public, possess excellent customer service skills, and have an interest in history, theater and education.
Preferential consideration will be given to those who speak a second language, with theater, education, and/or to those with tour guide experience.
We offer flexible scheduling where guides can choose their own hours each month but are asked to cover at least three shifts a month. Shifts are five-hour days leading three tours. Shifts are available during the weekdays and weekends with some opportunities for evening work. Once hired guides go through an approximately two-month training program before leading tours. All guides must pass a background check.
