JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the Deli Clerk provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Operates computerized cash register and electronic scale in store delicatessen to weigh, wrap, itemize, and total customer’s purchases. May take deli orders face to face or by telephone. Prepares deli food for hot and cold deli cases. Slices and wraps meats and cheeses for special order or to fill deli case.
Prepares deli fruit or seasonal trays for display or special order. May replenish items in coffee area and deli case. Checks and maintains appropriate level of supplies in deli area. May retrieve product from storage area and stock freezer, cooler, or storage room as appropriate. Washes dishes, pots, pans.
Sweeps and mops floors as needed. Cleans interior of display cases. Changes oil and filter in deep fryer and sanitizes food preparation equipment as necessary.
JOB DUTIES:
Safeway Deli Clerks employees are generally responsible for completing the following job duties:
1. Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy.
2. Prepare hot and cold deli food and display in deli cases for sale to customer.
3. Operate slicers and other food preparation equipment.
4. Use scales and volume measures to apportion product correctly.
5. Total bill, count payment, and make change.
6. Take deli orders over telephone or in person.
7. Inventory stock, restock, and face shelves of deli cases on sales floor.
8. Sanitation of deli area.
9. Performs temperature and tare checks daily.
10. Other duties as assigned.
