Position: Buyer I
Reports To: Purchasing Manager or Branch Manager
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
The Buyer I role is primarily clerical and includes a great deal of process and follow up. Issues are typically resolved by following a process or applying protocol to the point of “choice” or asking for guidance from supervision.
Job Requirements:
Ø Minimum 2 years purchasing experience in a related field.
Ø Knowledge and Experience within the industrial or Automotive parts market place.
Ø Fluent in Written and Spoken English. Additional languages are beneficial and would be considered an advantage.
Ø Experience working with an Enterprise Resource Planning system.
Ø Good Microsoft Excel Skills
Essential Job Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations:
Principal Responsibilities:
Ø Placement of purchase orders with suppliers based upon system generated requirements information, confirming price and expected delivery date as required.
Ø Expedite / follow up purchase orders to improve or confirm expected delivery dates as required by supervision or business needs.
Ø Participation in problem resolution for accounting and receiving discrepancies, particularly with respect to communication with the suppliers for purchase orders the buyer placed.
Ø Creating and maintaining documentation / records of communication with the supplier
Ø Advising supervision of pricing / lead time problems that do not meet set guidelines.
Ø Applying entry level negotiation techniques to price and lead time problems based on guidance provided by supervision.
Principal Decisions:
Ø Supplier selection where the business system or process allows secondary suppliers to be used.
Ø Price agreement within guidelines set by the local supervision or business policies
Ø Delivery date negotiation within guidelines set by the local supervision or business policies.
Problem Resolutions:
Ø Typically problems will be brought to the attention of the local supervision for guidance, except where guidelines (or precedents) have been set to allow the incumbent to resolve the issue.
