Catering Assistant

Saint Anselm college, a private, liberal arts college in the benedictine tradition, has an immediate opening for a full-time, year-round Catering Assistant.  Reporting to the Catering Manager, the Catering Assistant helps to coordinate catering events which can consist of multiple daily functions and can range from coffee/breakfast service, buffets and plated dinners for both small and large groups. Responsibilities will include setting up, serving and seeing to it that all the necessary catering details are in place to ensure that the highest standards are always met. Shifts may range from early morning to late evening and work schedule must be flexible to meet catering department needs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with setting up venue, side work and breakdown of venue
• Takes the lead when the catering manager is not on site.
• Serves food and beverages properly according to standards
• Sets and clears tables properly according to standards
• Pass hors d'oeuvres and wine
• Comply with all sanitation standards
• Respond to inquiries about menu and ingredients
• Ensure guest needs are fulfilled by being attentive and remaining on the floor
• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers
• Work cooperatively with the Catering manager and team members
• Support bartenders, kitchen staff and runners as needed
• Demonstrate positive and professional image
• Meets grooming and dress standards
• Dependably comes to work as scheduled
• Performs all duties in a safe and careful manner
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Basic education (high school) plus three to four years of relevant work experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

• Energetic, responsible and customer service-oriented
• Experience in taking the lead if the catering manager is not on site.
• Hands-on catering set up and breakdown and experience with both casual and fine dining banquet service.
• Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast paced, event driven environment
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Ability to carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand long hours
• Ability to follow directives
• Must be able to work flexible shifts and hours, including weekends needed by the catering department.
