Job Summary
- Recruitment of foster care applicants for Enhanced Family Foster Care homes throughout the Bronx.
- Provide orientation virtually or via phone to new foster care applicants.
- Works to approve Kinship homes according to established deadlines.
- Co-leads 24 hour TRIPP and 15 hour MINI-MAPP/GPS II training for all foster parent resources.
- Interviews foster care applicants, household members, back-up babysitters, references and others as needed during the home assessment period.
- Provides annual training for all existing foster parents.
- Establishes foster parent records prior to certification, including the fingerprinting, SCR, and medical clearance documents.
- Maintains documents and lists for training and supervision, and maintains foster parent records, following up on outstanding items.
- Writes and maintains timely notes and entries into Connections records.
- Investigates potential foster homes and prepares timely home studies of applicants.
- Visits current foster homes and prepares recertification documents, including entry into Connections system.
- Tracks all assessments, trainings, screenings, recruitment activities and certification.
- Rotation of the intake cell phone.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Intake and Homefinding.
- Able to interview, assess, and evaluate potential foster parent applicants in terms of their present level of functioning, parenting abilities, understanding of foster care and common foster children issues.
- Able to make decisions about foster parent applicants’ suitability for foster parenting.
- Able to write detailed home study reports based on observations, which are grammatically and structurally correct.
- Able to multi-task and work under pressure.
- Good public speaking skills to be utilized in training and recruitment forums.
- Organized, detailed and professional in work performance, demeanor and correspondence.
- Able to compute basic math functions.
- Understanding of family systems, roles, cultural norms, and sensitive when working with families applying for foster care.
- General knowledge of foster care system.
- BSW or BA in related field with at least (1) year of experience working with children and families
- Computer literate, with potential to learn other systems and virtual platforms (ZOOM, Webex, etc.)
- Bilingual, Spanish speaking is a plus
- Ability to conduct home visits, navigate the NYC public transportation systems, and to carry records up to 20 pounds, as needed.
- Travel to foster homes in upstate New York as required.
- Ability to use the computer.
- Will frequently have to stand, walk, reach, write and use the computer. While performing the duties for this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate clearly and effectively.
