Responsibilities

The Graduated Vocational Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care services requiring technical and manual skills, within the scope of practice, that meet the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care, and meets the communication needs of the patient and family; Performs under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocational Nurse.  An Apprentice or Graduate Vocational Nurse may only practice professional nursing under supervision and if the Apprentice or Graduate Vocational Nurse holds a current temporary practice permit. “Supervision” means that a licensed Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocational Nurse is physically present in the area or unit where the Graduate Vocational Nurse is practicing. The Graduate Vocational Nurse is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice. The Graduated Vocational Nurse also directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of care within the Medical/Surgical Unit. The Graduate Vocational Nurse is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her assigned patients. They communicate with physician about changes in the patient’s clinical condition including cardiac monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and/or response to treatment. The Graduate Vocational Nurse must take the NCLEX-PN within six months of hiring. The temporary Graduate Nurse Permit will expire the earliest date of any of the following: (1) when the candidate passes the NCLEX-PN®; (2) when the candidate fails the NCLEX-PN® test; (3) or on the 75th day following the effective date of the temporary authorization and the individual will no longer be eligible to work

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

  • High School Diploma Required
  • Current and valid state Permit as a Graduate Vocational Nurse with 3 months of graduation
  • Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • IV certification within 6 month of hire days of hire
  • Basic Arrythmia (BAC) training within 6 month of hire days of hire
  • ACLS within 6 months of hire
  • PALS (AHA) certificate required within 6 months of hire.
