• Please note this role can sit anywhere in the U.S. with a remote to hybrid working arrangement (depending on location).

The Optimization Engineering team is tasked with developing and supporting APIs for solving a variety of different discrete optimization problems at Salesforce. The primary product use cases today are rich vehicle routing and scheduling problems. The existing APIs offer world-leading performance on benchmark data sets and power a variety of products across Salesforce. The underlying algorithms involve cutting edge combinatorial optimization and rich commercial GIS data sets. The team is seeking an Architect who will help the team continue to develop new services and support existing APIs.

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic and industrial background in the following broad areas:

• Heuristic optimization algorithms and exact optimization via mixed integer programming

• GIS including open source routing engines and OpenStreetMap data

• Very strong C/C skills

• Cloud computing

Desired specific experience in these areas is as follows:

• GIS Experience

• Knowledge of OpenStreetMap format

• Knowledge of open source routing engines such as OSRM and Valhalla

Software Development Experience

• 5 years experience in C/C software development

• Experience with gRPC and protobuf specification

Cloud Experience

• Knowledge of Spinnaker and ArgoCD pipelines

• Knowledge of Jenkins CI

• Experience with AWS lambda and step functions

• Experience with Istio and envoy code base

Optimization Experience

• PhD in operations research, applied math, or industrial engineering

• Industry experience in solving discrete optimization problems at scale

• Industry experience using techniques such as simulated annealing and tabu search to solve problems at scale

• Industry experience using mixed integer programming (CPLEX, Gurobi, XPress, etc) as part of overall algorithmic approach
