What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Maintenance Supervisor position at Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community?

Under general supervision, oversees the day-to-day maintenance and repair of facilities used by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community governmental departments.  This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt and considered a DRIVING position.           
 
Essential Functions:   (Essential functions may vary among positions, but may include the following tasks, knowledges, abilities, skills, and other characteristics.  This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in this classification.)
 

Tasks:
1.  Schedules, assigns, and reviews the work of building maintenance workers and painters performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work to maintain, repair, and remodel Community facilities; trains new employees in a variety of building maintenance/repair trades areas.

2.  Meets with other Departments heads to identify repair/remodeling projects needed and determine what needs to be done, estimate costs, and set time frames for completing the project; integrates day-to-day work order requests into the work schedule, including determining priorities and assigning the work order or special project to the worker(s) best able to complete the assignment.  

3.  Inspects Community facilities on a periodic basis to identify potential repair and remodeling needs, ensure that day-to-day maintenance is being performed in compliance with established standards and guidelines, evaluate the general condition of the facilities.  

4.  May perform the full range of building maintenance and repair work of subordinate staff as needed to ensure the efficient, effective, and timely completion of maintenance, repairs, and/or remodeling projects.  

5.  Prepares periodic and special reports of project costs, including materials, supplies, labor, special equipment, and/or outside contractor expenses.    

Knowledges, Abilities, Skills and Other Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee supervision and training.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance and repair procedures and practices.  
  • Knowledge of carpentry and painting procedures and practices. 
  • Knowledge of plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair practices.
  • Knowledge of electrical system installation, maintenance, and repair practices.
  • Knowledge of heating and cooling system installation, maintenance, and repair practices.
 
  • Skill in planning and assigning the work of subordinate staff to ensure projects are completed in accordance with established standards, guidelines, and time frames.
  • Skill in supervising and training subordinate staff. 
  • Skill in planning and completing remodeling projects.
  • Skill in installing, maintaining, and repairing heating and cooling systems.
  • Skill in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical circuits. 
  • Skill in installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing fixtures. 
Qualifications:   
Education & Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and experience equivalent to six years full time building maintenance/repair work, at least two years of which involved lead or supervisory responsibilities; OR completion of a post high school program in building maintenance or one of the construction/building trades may substitute for one year of the required experience. 
 
Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of training and experience that would enable the candidate to satisfactorily perform and meet the duties and responsibilities required may be considered in meeting the stated minimum qualifications.

Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill


Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.  

Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
