The nonprofit San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living serves a significant number of patients and long-term care/skilled nursing residents each year in its Jewish Home & Rehab Center. Non-residential care is offered through our short-term and rehabilitation services unit for patients who require specialized interdisciplinary rehabilitation to recover from surgery or an acute illness, and through our acute geriatric psychiatry hospital. As a CMS five-star rated for quality measures and staffing, and with a complement of close to 650 compassionate, experienced clinical and allied health personnel, SFCJL provides older adults with a variety of life-enriching healthcare programs and services in a welcoming, stimulating environment.

SFCJL’s transformed campus includes the new Lynne & Roy M. Frank Residences (assisted living apartments and memory care & support assisted living suites), and Byer Square, a non-residential community of programs, services, and support.

Position Overview

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Worker will be responsible for repairs, modifications, and preventive maintenance tasks on building and facility equipment, fixtures, and systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform minor and major repairs of all buildings and equipment
  • Responsible for assuring all utility services are in operation and working properly
  • Assist with the renovation/remodeling of buildings; repair plaster and drywall; paint interior/exterior building; repair doors, door locks, and closets; install window blinds
  • Check the oxygen levels for designated buildings and complete the loading and unloading of full and empty cylinders
  • Make scheduled rounds throughout the facility, receive and complete routine work requests
  • Maintain records of scheduled maintenance request and complete all maintenance assignments in a safe and timely manner
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required
  • Responsible for keeping work area, equipment, and tools clean and in safe operable condition
  • Respond to all fire alarms and assist with all phases of firefighting until S.F.F.D. arrives
  • Carry an emergency cell phone in rotation with other maintenance workers and respond to after-hours emergency calls
  • Serve as back up shuttle driver
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Two years of maintenance experience, preferably in a hospital or commercial building setting
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the proper and safe use of hand/power tools used in repairs and light construction
  • Must be able to work weekends and available off-hours for an emergency call back
  • Ability to communicate with residents and assist them with their special request
  • Ability to read, write, communicate, and comprehend verbal and written instructions in English
  • Valid class “C” driver’s license
  • Willingness to continually learn about new equipment and to keep up with technology
  • Ability to lift, push, pull a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
