What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Hygienist - 4 days per week position at San Jose Clinic?
Description
1. Record medical and dental histories, vital signs and updated demographic information in patient’s chart
2. Perform duties according to dental treatment plan as provided by assigned dentist
3. Assess the nature and extent of dental, periodontal and associated conditions and pathology in dental outpatients
4. Perform full mouth periodontal probing or PSR on initial and appropriate subsequent visits
5. Record findings; note bleeding, mobility, furcate involvement and tissue tone in patient’s chart
6. Be able to perform more than 2 deep cleanings per day
7. Provide clinical services, health education, and after-care instructions to improve and maintain oral health such as brushing, flossing, and other plaque control methods
8. Maintains instrumentation for dental hygiene treatment by sharpening, sterilizing and selecting instruments
9. Notifies appropriate staff of patient requests which need follow-up: referrals, and appointments
10. Perform tobacco use screening. Initiate cessation support when appropriate
11. Proficient in oral camera use
12. Able to take digital radiographs
13. Experience in Eaglesoft or similar Dental Health Record System
14. Must possess general working knowledge of computer usage (word, excel, internet browser, outlook, etc.)
15. Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse incidents during treatment of patients
16. Maintains unit supplies and submits requisitions on timely basis
17. Prepares operatory for patient care for daily activities by cleaning, sanitizing, stocking supplies and maintaining equipment
18. Must be a self-starter, self-motivated individual, doesn’t require constant supervision
19. Must be a team player, and able to work closely with other health professionals (Medical, Pharmacy, NP)
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Degree from accredited Dental Hygiene School
2. Successful completion of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners exam for Dental Hygiene
3. Hold and maintain valid State of Texas Dental Hygienist Registration and CPR-BLS certification
4. Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the dental hygiene profession
5. Possesses excellent knowledge of dentistry procedures
6. Knowledge of insurance and eligibility requirements
7. Can demonstrate excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking and effective use of time
8. Ability to deal professionally, courteously and efficiently with public and all levels of the organization.
9. Ability to operate computer, copier fax, and electronic dental recordkeeping software
10. Can demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
11. Can demonstrate effective customer relation skills, working with diverse populations, often in stressful fast paced environments
12. Bilingual in English/Spanish required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to sit, stand, bend and stoop for (long) periods of time
2. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally/frequently
3. Ability to respond to emergency/crisis situations
4. Exposure to noise
5. Exposure to blood and/or fluids
