Position Summary

Banquet Captain ensures the proper servicing of all Banquet functions, organize staff and maintain good service to our guests, maintain all equipment, maintain assigned records, coordinate functions with service staff, oversee functions and ensure they flow smoothly and trouble free.

Reports to the Convention Center Manager.

Supervises the following:

Banquet Servers
Banquet Bartenders
Lead Banquet Set-ups
Temporary Concert Workers

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Assists in organizing Banquet Division with respect to schedules, banquet event orders, banquet reports, linen ordering, daily revenue spreadsheet, tip allocation and liquor and beverage ordering.

Will open and close day-to-day operation, checking each banquet room for proper set up 30 minutes before group arrives.

Greets Group Contact upon arrival and ensures cell phone number is given for all Banquet Functions and checks back periodically during the function. The Captain is in the room for 30 minutes prior to function to greet guests as they arrive, monitor service standards during function and/or help with service as needed.

Is responsible that credit policies are always adhered to and that the respective consumption check is presented to the respective host for signature at the end of each function and that the check is subsequently hand posted to the respective revenue account.

Facilitation and participation in daily stand up meetings to ensure property communication is shared and understood.

Timely completion of computer assisted training.

Is responsible at the conclusion of events to ensure that the facility is returned immediately to a clean, orderly and secured condition including, but not limited to tableware being brought to the banquet dishwashing area, sorting and counting soiled linen and preparing for pick up by the linen service company, safely stacking tables and chairs, vacuuming carpets and mopping service corridor.

Provide banquet management with day-to-day reports on groups and employees.

Spend 90% of their work time on the floor interacting with guests and staff.

Assist in banquet employee reviews, employee motivational and corrective feedback including documentation via approved company methods, training and attendance policies.

Ensure profitability of banquet department and keep labor as a percentage of revenue goals in line.

Supervision of banquet servers, room set-up, clean up and payroll administration.

Assists in keeping necessary inventories on equipment and necessary food and beverage items.

Completes and understands all paperwork, cash bar procedures, safety checklists, departmental reports, employee sign-in sheets and Banquet Event Orders.

Ensure client and guest needs are met and that problems which develop are handled in a timely fashion and reported at the Convention Center Manager for follow up and/or further resolution.

Maintain equipment and meeting space in top condition and notify Convention Center Manager of any needs or major repairs.

Ensures that the Convention Center and all event venues are clean and in excellent condition for events and site visits.

10. Ability to assess work and to provide both positive and corrective feedback to Banquet Staff supervised.

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED

Three to Four (3-4) years food and beverage experience

One (1) year of supervisory experience.

Must have a valid Food Handler Course.

Must have a valid Alcohol Servers License.

Fork lift certification preferred.

Licensing Status

Must be able to successfully pass a Background Investigation.
